I don't think cilantro tastes like soap; I just hate it and its leafy awfulness getting in the way of my food.
Spike's Bitches 44: It's about the rules having changed.
[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.
I am a supertaster by most tests, but I love cilantro, and don't think it tastes at all like soap. Broccoli, though, is evil and should be banished, as should all green peppers.
Supertasters think cilantro tastes like soap. Poor bastards.
interestingly,I love cilantro. But, I was in an "authentic" indian restaurant and had something with cilantro and it was incredibly soapy and gross. I then understood why people would be anti-cilantro. And then I went to the store and bought some cilantro, tasted it cautiously, and it was fine. I don't know what happened, if it was a different variety or what, but I do have some sympathy for the cilantro haters.
I like cilantro and broccoli, but hate melon and am not wild about walnuts.
Cilantro does kind of taste like soap to me, but I don't mind.
Maybe the restaurant washed the cilantro and didn't rinse the soap off. Although washing herbs with soap would be odd—wouldn't you remove the oils that have most of the flavor?
I'm meh on cilantro. It's fine with me if there's some, but it can be overdone.

Wrod.
One of the few things I lauded George Herbert Walker Bush for was his staunch stand that as President of the United States, he didn't have to eat broccoli.
Green peppers are of the yum, but broccoli is bleh, at least the tops of it are. I don't mind the stem of the little tree thing, but the texture of the tops is gross. I also don't like cauliflower, so I often skip the veggie mixture at restaurants--they tend to give you a blend of carrots, broccoli, and cauliflower.

At least according to this article, dislike of cilantro and supertasting are unrelated. [link]
I like green peppers, but they tend to overpower whatever they are in, so I use them sparingly in cooking. Which is fine, because I can munch on the leftovers :)
I've never found that I need to go through all the hassles of elective office to not eat broccoli. I just say, "no, thanks, I don't want any broccoli."
