Palm oil (which is high in saturaed fat but low in transfat) tastes pretty good for those purposes. Peanut oil makes really good fried chicken. Corn oil (IMO) makes really good fries. (I also happen to like olive oil (non-extra virgin) for fried food, but admit not to everybody's taste.

I just tried my first experiment in vegan matzo brei. It's not perfect, but definitely good enough that I'll try again, and adjust the recipe a bit. (This time: two pieces matzo, 1/4 cup blended silken tofu, salt, fried in Earth Balance.)

My computer has graciously let me on for five minutes so I can be be mememe -- I have a 2nd date tonight. And he's getting more and more Buffista-like the more I get to know him.
I'm not going to touch the weight/health discussion, except to note that once I figured out that clothes are supposed to fit my body, and not vice versa, I found it much easier to not be an asshole to myself about weight and body issues.
Except now I have to figure out what to wear tonight that is a fine balance between comfortable, sexy and not too slutty.
Three variables is much more challenging than the sexy/not too slutty scenario.

When my daughter and her fellow college students handed in term papers, their professor had them submit their work to Turnitin.com, a Web site that detects plagiarism, something he had never done before.
