But then, he dug his own hole, I can't feel bad about that, right?? uggg. Sometimes, being management sucks.
This is the guy who would take frequent and inappropriate smoke breaks, right? I think you're well within your bounds here, omnis. You were really patient with this guy as I recall and he just didn't seem to Get It.
Indians got creamed. *pouts* I'm now watching the Marlins and Nationals. Marlins lead, 2-0.
He's still apprentice level. It's just a weird feeling. I've never fired/released someone before. And to do it in this economy makes me feel bad. But then, he dug his own hole, I can't feel bad about that, right?? uggg. Sometimes, being management sucks.
Think of it this way, you can feel good about giving someone deserving a good opportunity when they are struggling in this economy, and perhaps he can find something that would be a better fit-and therefore more stable for him in the long run.
well, you don't have to fire him, you just have to not ask him back, right? If he says something about next year, you can say "I've realized that I need a stronger skill set in an assistant. than you possess. I'll be advertising for a new assistant next season, and I would love to see how you've developed in the interim. You'll have a leg up with our history, but if you don't have the skills, I will be looking elsewhere"
Vortex, that is very well put, but far too softball. At this point, I don't even want him to have hope that he will get it again. But yes, we won't be firing him, just not renewing his contract for the fall.

Yup, that's the one. What really set me in place with the decision is checking in on his progress with change-over. He re-rigged the speakers, as needed by lighting, and said the task was done. But they weren't focused, or the cable run made pretty. "Ya, but that's like 5 minutes, no big deal". So just do it! Than we can call the job done! Nope. He kinda half-asses everything. It's not like the work won't have to be done later? Grrrr.

I love Buffista points of view! Exactly! I have two folks in mind too.

I love how her look is all, "I know right!?! I just used a crayon and 'POOF' genius! I don't know how I do it!"
I had huge plans for today. But then no sleep.
I have gone to the grocery store. and watered the garden. but all the cleaning that was to be done today -- so I wouldn't have to kill myself later in the week, didin't happen.
I might clean the dinning room, it is the least daunting.
boss is in meeting with guy from new building. Office is too loud to eavesdrop. Then they close the door, making it even harder. Dang it. Not. Fair.
I had planned to reward myself by cooking a bunch of my favorite foods from the restaurant where I used to work when I had lost ten pounds. Well I have tomorrow off so I could conceivably cook all day and although I've only lost 9 pounds total, last week I gained a pound so losing it again counts, right?
