My mom called with an update. His kidneys are failing, and he's on dialysis. He may have had a heart attack as well. He sounds like one of the patients I've written about. With MULTI-ORGAN FAILURE (CTC GRADE 5).

All of my doctor's have my biopsy results. None of them will tell me what the results are.
I hate that. I think it should be up to the patient whether he hears by phone, e-mail or in person. I'd rather know before I go into the doctor's office, so I can have questions to ask. I also get irritated with the damn ultrasound people. who are reading the ultrasound right there, but won't tell you anything.
It certainly doesn't necessarily mean bad news. You already knew it was complicated news, and a lot of doctors like to explain all that, even if it's just that you'll be taking thyroid pills.
