"Are you Catholic, or are you Christian?"
I'm sorry, but that made me laugh. Like the "are you reform or Jewish?" one.
First Kick
Hello, baby!
Also, Hil. I know that where you are can seems completely despairish sometimes, but you might rushing into conclusion. Not that I blame you for that, having Clueless as an advisor.
But, as Smart Nilly says, we do what we can do when we're ready to do it. Not a minute before, not a minute after. You might feel stuck now, and by next week figure out something amazing. You might only figuring it out in 2 or 5 years from now, but it doesn't mean anything about your mathematical or human capabilities. It's just, all about timing, and the right people.
I'm trying to put it in a way that will look comforting and not "surrender to destiny" way, and I'm not sure I'm doing too well.
Anyway, please don't listen to that advisor.
"Baylor hires only Christians and Jews.... the school gives hiring preference to Baptists first, followed by other Protestant evangelicals, then other Protestants, other Christians, and lastly Jews."
Makes ya proud to be a Texan, huh?
eeeek! Need shower, need shower! wash this TX thing off of me!
Thank doG I'm a New Yorker!
(I know, it's not a Texan thing, it's a Baylor thing)
Yes, the scary part is, they are one of the leading medical institutions around here. They got a hospital here in Dallas.
Darling, why are you still up?
cuz I fell asleep in fluffy for about 2+ hours, and now am not tired. I'm about to try to fall asleep again. Facebook has deadened the brain a bit.
Parents, especially mom are driving me batshit.
There have been several displays of extreme selective memory and WTF logic on their behalf that's left me speechless. And when I say nothing, they think they're right. When they're saying nothing, they're, by proxy, right.
I cannot reason with this.
As for jobs at Christian universities, some are more hard core than others.
Yes. As someone who works at a university that shall remain nameless here, I did have to promise to uphold the mission of the school, but they are an equal opportunity employer. But that only means they'll hire me - they can still fire me if I don't uphold the mission of the school. Which means that I can't work here and be president of planned parenthood.
I also had to take a loyalty oath when I went to work for the U. of California to work there.
Yay, kicks!
Yay, Sean & Date Girl and meteor showers!
Faculty there have to agree to uphold the Christian mission of the college, and they ask job applicants their religion and how involved they are in their church and take that into consideration when making hiring decisions.
That's a lot more stringent and defined than the Jesuit college where I taught. They asked for my religion ("sarcastic") and how I planned to bring God into the classroom (er, Deus ex Machina was all I had) but didn't fret about the responses. And kept renewing me. A hiring ratio/tree based on religion is le creepy.
Hooray Baby Kicks!
Trader Joes' veggie food is the yum. Our 'oh crap, what to cook' shelf has all the boxed Indian stuff. And the pesto pizza. omnom. Someone got me hooked on pomegranate seeds, so we go there a lot, as pomegranates aren't a PA staple food.
Dylan is a cutiehead.
Yay for first kicks! That is definitely making me smile.
Definite yay on first kicks.
I also hope Sean gets many more moments he wants to live in.
