I would be there right now.

Spike's Bitches 44: It's about the rules having changed.

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

aw bt! Cute pics! Awesome smile. Love the photo with the spikey hair. But, it seems, the flickr stream ran out of pictures. The slide show stopped. Not fair.

OK, I should be going to work now.

I’m responsible for my own happiness? I can’t even be responsible for my own breakfast! (Bojack Horseman)

Meh. Don't want to go to work. Don't want to sit down with boss and talk about my future, and why I want to apply for this other job. Need to do it anyway. Meh meh meh.

Ugh, I hear you. I am in a slightly better mood due to the broken AC situation at work leading to working from home. Ahhhh.

Anyway, Tom passed his test and interview! He'll be sworn in on August 26!

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Yay Tom!

I remember reading a few years ago about a brain injury that somehow disconnected the emotional and visual centers of the brain, so that when people who had this injury saw family members, they would visually recognize "That's my brother" or whatever, but wouldn't feel the emotional response that they expected to feel, and would conclude that their whole family had been replaced by pod people

Capgras syndrome. Probably misnamed because it is more of a symptom than a syndrome. It shows up in psychotic disorders, brain injury, dementia, and drug withdrawal. The anguish that patients with this symptom feel can be very moving. Not only have they lost their loved-ones, they have to deal with the imposters every day, so they can't grieve for the loss.

It's a very complex situation. I saw a patient once who was distressed because he was attracted to the alien that had replaced his wife, and he thought he was being disloyal to his wife.

Yeah, I've read about this and I find it fascinating. One might think that you could explain what was going on to the person affected so they'd understand their loved ones were really there, but one would be wrong.
