Wait... Quenya or Sindarin?
Sindarin. There simply aren't enough examples, even in the notes, to build a reasonable lexicon of Quenya. Christopher has, apparently, become quite agitated and cranky about this, considering the insane clamor coming from the linguistic fanboys.
Okay, getting ready to transfer hotels and mindset. Going from family vacation to professional conference headspace. Also going from very nice, serviceable Residence Inn to more upscale Radisson Wardman Park.
Zoo today as well.
Happy Day Late Birthday Seska!
Happy Belated Birthday, Seska!!! I hope you had a great day!
The Girl is sitting next to me with one sock on. "Why do you have one sock on?" I ask. "I just do," she says.
Did she say this like the Cat in Coraline?
Sindarin. There simply aren't enough examples, even in the notes, to build a reasonable lexicon of Quenya. Christopher has, apparently, become quite agitated and cranky about this, considering the insane clamor coming from the linguistic fanboys.
I'm enough of a fangirl to be able to call up the names of the languages from memory but not enough of a fangirl to know the state of the languages themselves. Poor Christopher.
Barb, have fun storming the castle the Radisson.
Wait... Quenya or Sindarin?
Suddenly I feel a certain geek inadequacy. I'm writing a fantasy novel and this is meaningless to me. That seems wrong.
Basically, Sindarin is your common or garden-variety elvish, and Quenya is the EVEN MORE MARY SUE elvish spoken by the even more elfy elves who are too snooty for Middle Earth.
OK, speaking as a mostly-non-fanboy... WTF? They already have one made-up language but that's not good enough for them?
OK, Trek just has Klingon, right? Star Wars has
no
made up languages, right? (I mean, no one's tried to figure out the language Chewey or RD-D2 speaks, right?)
Star Wars has plenty of made up languages. Return of the Jedi even had a song that was originally written in English and then translated: [link]
