The male hooded seal blows out the lining of his nasal cavity and inflates it like a balloon. Then he waves it around to get attention.

I have seen footage of this and am continually amazed that any baby hooded seals are ever concieved. It is not an attractive courtship ritual.

Wow, that looked like something out of the Eddy Murphy "Nutty Professor". Makes ya think it started with a teenager going "dude, look what I can do", and next thing you know, it's the social custom.
