Oi. Internet now shut off. Stealing neighbor's weak signal. Good chance I'll lose cable, and maybe even cell for a bit, at some point soon. Those I don't care about. Rent for July, my car payment and my other loan payment are the ones getting paid this month (knock wood). I'm hoping not to lose gas or electricity. July really can't get here fast enough.
Spike's Bitches 44: It's about the rules having changed.
[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.
Have a good flight, Drew!
Good luck, ND, Sean.
Yay first class!
After yesterday, ND deserves first-class for life. And not just when he happens to be on an airplane.
Oh, ND has deserved first class on everything for the rest of his life since way before yesterday. I'm glad he recently got it.
Holy crap, you guys. My mom got fired this morning. They had all known that "restructuring" was imminent, but she's been there for 8 or 9 years, and the PTB have always loved her and thought highly of her mad skillz. (She does -- DID -- PR for my high school.)
At the worst, she was expecting to get a heavier workload, from taking on stuff that the other laid-off people were doing.
But no. The president, along with the school's lawyer, had a meeting with her, told her that they want to hire someone with marketing experience*, and go clean out your office. She's -- quite understandably -- utterly fucking shocked.
*(They want someone with "marketing experience" because their enrollment is WAY down. Well, *yeah.* The economy sucks rocks right now -- ALL the Catholic, private high schools in Cincy have low enrollment. Nobody can afford to pay $8,000-10,000 a YEAR to send their kids to school. So, in order to try to get more students, they want to market the school "better," which is a slap in the face to my mom, who had been doing a kick-ass job.)
Holy shit Steph!! Man, what a blow. I am so sorry!!
oh, Steph - so sorry. You might also want to point out to her that they're probably going to hire someone with less experience ... who'll cost less.
You might also want to point out to her that they're probably going to hire someone with less experience ... who'll cost less.
I'm assuming that's going to be the case. (Not that she made *that* much in the first place -- working for a Catholic school does not yield one the type of salary working at an ad agency would.)
She's going to be 63 on Saturday (way to fire my mom 5 days before her birthday, assholes), and was thinking about retiring, but because the economy is so lousy, was going to keep working for a while. So maybe now she'll just retire. Don't know.
