Daniel yeah it's kinda WTF but the thing is some of the added people plus a couple of the people in my department (including my boss) are all really good friends and hang out a lot outside of work.
I probably haven't been as social as I could have, but, they are nice people but not my people. Especially considering there are issues of intolerance that I find hard to tolerate in the work place.
It seems like it would be low-key but historical and awesome.
Chances are you will not be snowed-in and miserable, at least.
The French Quarter Festival does stuff in the Quarter. [link]
City Park has a light festival called Celebration in the Oaks.
There's also a good chance that I'll be singing Christmas carols in a quartet somewhere in the city.
Google Translate renders it:
Im hellsten Tag in schwärzesten Nacht,
nichts Böses wird entkommen meine Augen Lassen Sie diejenigen,
die Anbetung des Bösen könnte,
Vorsicht meiner Macht ... Green Lantern's Licht!
And Babelfish:
Am hellsten Tag in der schwärzesten Nacht,
entgeht kein Übel meinem Anblick ließ die,
die evil's konnte,
meine Energie aufzupassen… Grünes Lantern's-Licht!
Grünes Lantern
You know, when I used to watch the Batman cartoon on German TV, "Der Fliedermausmann" never failed to crack me up.
That boy is going to be a total heart throb when he grows up. What a great smile.
I am this close to calling the copson my upstairs neighbor. This is the third Friday in a row that she has had a screaming, door slamming brawl with her daughter past midnight.
German boy, 14, struck by meteor, lives.
What a dumb article. It didn't even say what kind of super powers the kid got.

One of my favorite memories from the DC F2F is sitting by the pool with Holli, talking about how fiction (specifically, comic books and BTVS/Angel) have screwed up our expectations of reality. My example was that I semi-believed I should have telepathic powers, thanks to Willow (and Raven from Teen Titans).
Holli's example was that, if she was ever in an accident where she fell into a vat of industrial waste (for example), if she died instead of getting cool super-powers, she'd be really pissed, because she'd be expecting the super-powers because of all the fictional examples that have gone before.
Like Meteor Kid.

Seska, I don't know if I already said, but I'm so sorry about your extended family crapitude. And I'm just going to point at what the other folks said.
(I gave them a quadruple whammy, though. I was living in multiple sin with a girl and a black guy at the same time, while working as a stripper. This, shortly after I graduated from an ivy league college. My mom had a total prayer meltdown when I told her.)
...aaaand Zenkitty is my new hero.
