I don't begrudge athletes the ability to make a living in their field. I just wish they were doing it after the Olympics. That the Olympics were a glimpse of hungry aspiring athletes.
But that's interesting commentary about the older athletes. I'll have to give it some thought.
At least mine is topical.
Bigger countries are going to do better. Duh. Richer countries are going to do better. Duh. Basically, a high medal count means "we're a big rich country" and we really didn't need an Olympics to tell us that. What are you bragging about, Bob Costas?

I understand the ideal, Liese. There is much debate around here concerning amateur and professional athletes. To compete at that level is more than a full time job, it is a 24x365 job that requires a lot of support. My ideal would be that the competing athletes had the same level of support. The same thing applies to school sports where non-compensated means a whole lot different thing from one environment to another.
The people that we know that have competed for the US, Jamaica, and the Bahamas all trained together in Atlanta. It amuses me that people competing against each other for their individual countries all trained together at the same facility, here.
