Bigger countries are going to do better. Duh. Richer countries are going to do better. Duh. Basically, a high medal count means "we're a big rich country" and we really didn't need an Olympics to tell us that. What are you bragging about, Bob Costas?
Or the home country (unless you're Canada), or a Communist country. Or Australia.
I understand the ideal, Liese. There is much debate around here concerning amateur and professional athletes. To compete at that level is more than a full time job, it is a 24x365 job that requires a lot of support. My ideal would be that the competing athletes had the same level of support. The same thing applies to school sports where non-compensated means a whole lot different thing from one environment to another.
The people that we know that have competed for the US, Jamaica, and the Bahamas all trained together in Atlanta. It amuses me that people competing against each other for their individual countries all trained together at the same facility, here.

Hey Jesse, I just saw these spectator-like shoes in a Dillard ad:

And Oxford style pumps were a fall trend in the new Elle. (Though they are not two colour shoes.) Comme ca:

M (who's from Toronto) keeps joking that he has to go to Beijing to rescue his hockey team from the bottom of the pool. "They got drunk and showed up at the wrong Olympics!"
C self off cliff.
Oh, Perkins.
What?
So maybe I should have made it Death is not an option, instead of FCM.
Thanks, Sue! Too bad I like the $600 shoes.

There'll be knockoffs soon enough.
How about really cute Marc Jacobs pumps then. Only $474.

I love those! I have a similar pair from Hot Topic that are just black, and the heel is too high for me to walk in. It's a combination of tight hamstrings and my back -- although my back is still all fixed from the surgery, if I try to wear heels higher than 3" (and frankly, even that is pushing it), my back screams at me.
But I definitely need something spectator-like for fall, I'm thinking. Plus red patent-leather loafers. Well, not the full, high sides of true loafers; more of a shoe with lower sides, like a moccasin, only with a hard sole like a loafer. In red patent.
ION, I just put 2 quiches (spinach and stinky foot-cheese [I think it's asiago, but it might just be aged parmesan]) in the oven, and I have to wait for at least 40 minutes but my stomach is growling. Yum!
