Harrow: You didn't have to wound that man. Mal: Yeah, I know, it was just funny.

move out and draw fire

Iris is stubborn enough to cry for 5 hours straight. She hunger-struck at her preschool when they wouldn't let her drink juice, only water. Not Joking.

Mal's school offers milk or water. They were out of milk one day. Mal accepted the cup of water, stared at the teacher, and upended it on the floor.

The teacher who told me this later thought it was the most adorable thing she'd ever seen...but I died from embarrassment.

Also, yeah, Mal will cry until he passes out, despite years of sleep training. When he was wee, swaddling worked (and in fact was the only thing that would keep him from shredding his own face) but took two of us to achieve.

In other news, I was summoned to a management meeting today - where they gave me an award. Half of me is like, "Wow, I fooled them all!!!" The other half thinks this was to get out of giving me a promotion.

Mostly lurking...

Jessica, my bro and SIL just did that with my nephew about a month ago. It's worked amazingly well for them. I hope it goes well for you.

Kristin, I hope that the decision is made really clear for you.

Raq, that's very cool! Congratulations!

Congrats Raq.

KT, glad it went well. Wait until they offer and see what it all entails before making a final decision.

"I've Got Avogadro's Number"
Ha! Like two weeks ago or so, the number 6.02x10e23 popped back into memory. I knew it was chemistry. I remember using it all the time in that class (10th grade, so we are talking 1986 or so..omg like 22 years ago?? Is that right? Fuck I'm old). But I don't remember how to use it any more. Although I learned it as a "Mole" I don't recal Avogadro or anything. But, hell, it was 2 decades ago.

ION, I voted! how come we don't get stickers for that here?

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

Although I learned it as a "Mole" I don't recal Avogadro or anything.

It's the number of atoms/molecules in a mole.

The status is NOT quo.

The principal made a comment a little bit ago that leads me to believe that they want me to be the co-director of the new faculty program...which is no money, but much more my style. I have a feeling someone else is going to get the dean position, but if something else is in the pipeline for me, I'm okay with that.

Ick. Sweats and chills at work are no fun. Ten more minutes and I'm leaving.

not your mom's socks.

no wonder they get along so well. they do know what they like. And how to send a message.

t / sprog tied me up and made me type that.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

One mole of the atoms of an element masses in grams that elements atomic weight (in atomic units? I don't remember). The famous (possibly apocryphal) Physical Chemistry exam from my college was "The sky is blue. Derive Avogadro's Number."

I am in favor of babies and toddlers eating. And sleeping. And Kristin's chills going away and job changes being towards better fits, not worse, and yay awards and leases.

Brain is fried from too much accounting. And it was hardly any, so brain was probably already fried from unknown brain-frying activity.

Occasionally I’m callous and strange

I never got any math songs, which might be part of why it never made sense. However, my 9th grade earth science teacher did spend one class with her guitar singing us science songs, including one with the refrain: "A mole is a number, have you heard, it's six times ten to the *beat* twenty-third. THat's SIX with twenty four zeros on the end, much too big a number to even comprehend."

It had lots of verses demonstrating how big a mole is, like how if a mole of marshmallows fell to earth it would take that many people eating for that many years to finish them all up.

It was a pretty awesome song.

ALso, i was was lactose intolerant from day one. My mother raised me on breast milk (Plenty of fat there!) plus avoccadoes once i was old enough for (mostly) solid food. Av-o-ca-do was my third word. I like them lots, and apparently my brain developed just fine without dairy.
