Luckily, there's a conference this week and most of the staff are out, including all the VIPs, so I'm wearing comfy clothes and my sneakers. Also, goofing off on the internets (but I'm also getting stuff done, so my conscience is mostly clear).

We have a written dress code, but it's mostly ignored - some people turn up in, well, inappropriate clothes. And flip-flops when it's warm enough. One person wears Uggs all winter, then switches to crocs and flip-flops for the summer (shudder).

Now, these are totally after-work shoes, IMO. Something about the shape of that heel.

and red patent leather. Ombre even.

Shit's all sorts of different now.

Anyone ever work for or heard of working for ProQuest?

I can ask around, Aims. A coworker used to work for Ebsco, a competitor of theirs. We subscribe to a LOT of ProQuest products.

I think that in many/most workplaces, both peep toes and patent leather are now acceptable. Maybe not *red* patent leather. My workplace, we're all in sensible shoes, of course. There's one woman who wears pin heels, but she used to work for a corporation.

not your mom's socks.

I still like kitten heels the best. not so far to fall.

but overall, heels, peeps. etc. bring it. unless I can wear tevas. Still haven't found the right scene for my patent-leather manolos that someone was brilliant enough to save for me.

I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I miss them all tonight…

I would totally wear those shoes to work (if I could get over the patent thing). Of course, I'm currently wearing my 20-eyelet Docs right now, so perhaps I'm not the best judge.

On Sunday, I got the most awesome pair of shoes EVAR. Red satin, peep toe, 3.5 inch skinny heels, with a small satin rose on the top of the vamp. GORGEOUS. I look like I should be in Cuba in these shoes.

Of course, where I'm going to wear them is anyone's question....

edit: here they are!! [link]

I'm starting to get excited about Cairo. For one thing, I get to buy new clothes! Hooray! And I need to start considering whether I can pull off the Fay hat look. I hear hats are a good idea, I've just never been very comfortable in them.

Toddson, sadly, no Prom for me. Work interfered, and then it didn't, but by then I had already made other plans, and GAH.
