[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

Me: Just a moment...I'm sorry, the person you need to speak to is [Mgr of Payroll], but she is away from her desk at the moment. Would you like to leave her a voicemail?

How much did you enjoy saying this?

Though sometimes, for no known reason, it's "Amy chuh."

sometimes this, some times Amy C-H.

Because books.

It's always "aim-ick" and "aim-ith", clearly.

Probably way more than I should have.

Okay, so tomorrow is the 5-year anniversary of my back surgery. Seriously. Five years. And I still haven't gotten tired of talking about it.

What I really want, to commemorate it, is a vertebra. Preferably a cast model, rather than the nifty rubbery models that doctors have to show their patients where exactly all the pain is originating.

So I found The Bone Room. I can get a cast of a vertebra for $5, or....an actual human vertebra for $20.

Would it be utterly creepy and ooky to get a real human vertebra?

They have nifty jewelryas well, including earrings made from mink penis bones (scroll down).

They also have capybara skulls (scroll down).

Only if you try to pass it off as your own.

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

Wow! 5 years. I swear it doesn't seem like I've been part of this community that long, until someone posts something like that. The human vertebra looks kind of cool.

Holy cow. Five years? Can't be. That JUST HAPPENED.

Go you!

Hey. New board.

Gris, what's the age range of the students?

9th and 10th grade.

Thanks all. I feel a bit better. I did talk about it with my third period class, and I'll discuss it with my advisory. We'll see how 6th, 7th, and 8th go. Honestly, by that point I'll probably be the only person who still has any thoughts about it in my head.

I don't even think the rest of the teachers had close to the same reaction I did. My empathy hat may be screwed on too tight, but I can't help thinking about what my reaction would be if I found out something like that had happened when MY name was mentioned.

ION: I pronounce it "ah-mish"

The status is NOT quo.

I think you should scrap your lesson plans in so far as it is possible and talk about their reaction and yours.
This. Classic teachable moment. Kids need reminders sometimes that teachers are people, too. Sorry, Gris. I can't say it won't happen again, but I can say that those moments are ultimately outweighed by the moments when you think your kids rock. (And if that doesn't happen, time to change schools...for me, at least.)

Teppy, wow. Five years. That all happened the year before I joined the board, but I remember reading about the aftermath. Go you and your good back!

MM, you really must use these little conversations in your book. Seriously. Chapter could be called "Conversations with My Phone."
