When I walked my dog twice a day I used to snag an extra handful of plastic bags and stuff them in with my groceries on my way out of the store.

We do that too. With 2 dogs going out 3 to 4 times a day, we need as many as we can get our hands on.

Taking shopping bags to the store is one of my big resolutions. We're in Mountain View and had to go to Whole Foods and I felt like an ASS for not having my bag.... at that Whole Foods, they give you $.05 back if you have a reusable bag or you bring your own and if you'd like, they'll donate that money to one of three charities. Neat.

It's SO handy. We have about half a dozen or so. We use them not only for groceries, but for toting things to potlucks, picnics, you name it. We leave the lot up in the house just often enough that we still have enough paper bags for collecting our recycling.

Yeah, I have them double and triple bag things if I can. And then I unload everything from the bags and repack it into my reusable bags since they're so much easier to carry. That only happens if I'm on a major grocery run, though. Even without the dog issue, so much of my shopping is on the way to and from work and other places. Not having a car, it's generally unlikely that I'll have a cloth bag with me.

I tell myself that since the plastics are always full (of garbage or...other stuff) and tied off when I toss them that they don't end up riding the wind currents out to that sickening mass in the Pacific.

Feh. If I had a pet store near by I'd be better about using the degradable ones. But it's just too much to keep up with without a convenient source.

football and grocery bags - I like the juxtaposition.

I know nothing of football. Foot ball was sacred on Sundays. As in dad set his watch to beep if the minister went into OT and might interfere with football. So I don't even look at it now.

I'm feeling like a bad environmentalist, because I don't own my own bags. I do, however, reuse the plastic ones as trash bags and to carry my work lunches, and I use paper ones as recycling receptacles, especially for other paper products.

The bags at the pet store are too expensive, and Ozymandias will chew them if he can get at them. You do not want to accidentally use a bag Oz has chewed on.

Yep. It is awesome! I really could vote for just about any one of ours. That speech just made me a whole lot more comfortable about it though.
