We've been bringing our bags for years, but I'm still really inconsistent about it. The SO does better than me, which is good, cause he does more of the grocering than I do anymore.

Wal-Mart is just now rolling out "sustainable" bags. Don't ask why I know this.
You want to see Dark Ages? Come to Chicago. No city-wide recycling at all. And the only place I see people with their own bags is at Trader Joes. Not too many even there, really.
There's no city-wide recycling here either. Even New Orleans had it before the storm, though I doubt it's back in place yet.
I end up using the plastic bags for scooping the litterbox. There is probably a better solution.
I've been taking bags pretty regularly for 5-6 years. I generally have a bag of some sort as I do random errands around the hood too, hardware store/drug store/whatnot and probably refude bags about 50% of the time. Today I had a return and UPS shipment in an old paper shopping bag, so I used it for the merchandise I got at 4 different stores.

Me too. I wish I didn't need them, but I can't think of anything else that works.
Jesus Christ, Packer, WTF?
I use the plastic bags for all the trash cans in my house. I use the plastic veggie bags for litter. I think one of the two groceries near me has gone to using the degradable plastic bags. I am trying to slowly shift my shopping to that store since the one I have been going to is just so annoying on so many levels, but learning the layout of a new store in order to shop quickly is proving harder than I expected.

It's a clever plan - each penalty, the ball is half the distance to the goal, so the Giants will never reach the goal....
