I'm thinking I may as well drive and eat the parking cost. On the plus side, I'll get home much faster.
Kathy, I have no answers to those questions. I could see how coffee and books seemed like a more immediate cozy (than home) from the vantage point of the parking lot. But why they ventured out in the first place? Who knows.
Okay, back.
So, NewYorkistas: is the name Danny Hoch familiar to you? Because if it's not, it should be.
And Bay Area-istas should make an attempt to see "Taking Over" at the Berkeley Rep, if you can. It's a fab one-man show about gentrification in Brooklyn: look, someone talking about class and race in America! Shocking, I know! Funny, grim, horrible, and brutally true. The scene with the hipster gal in the poncho, selling vintage t-shirts and used cds on the sidewalk? Was painfully, painfully accurate. Ouch.
Talented guy, honestly. Very very talented. "We asked for better schools and they gave us muffins."
I worked a little bit with Danny quite a few years ago at the Ojai Playwrights Festival. He was workshopping some of his new material. Seems like a really interesting guy.

I somehow feel this needs to be related to "Eat a muffin, whitey!"
Ugh. The guy upstairs from me is playing music that isn't even that loud, but the bass or speaker vibrations or something are coming through loud and clear through my ceiling.

Hand to god, that was exactly what I thought of at that line!

That sucks. I get that a lot. And when both my upstairs neighbors are home I swear it sounds like they are hosting a clogging school for sumo wrestlers. I never hear anything through the walls, but there obviously isn't much sound absorption between floors.
28 out there -- loved the snow pictures, especially because I got to see Ginger's backyard this summer! All the pretty snow around here is now ratty and mostly melted, but at least all the parking spaces are clear....
I went to Arisia, hung out with friends I don't get to see enough of (or at all), talked to some strangers, knitted like a fiend, and managed to have lunch at Mary Chungs (yummy Szechuan) AND dinner at Asmara (yummy Ethiopean) which is like the hat trick of Cambridge dining. Plus the people I inveigled into coming along had never had Ethiopean before, and were so very vocal in their discovery of something so delicious that they had passed by previously. Also very grateful that it was not only vegetarian-friendly, but has all the meat-eaters reaching across the table to make sure they get some of the veggie dishes....
Wow. Snow. Long time no see...
