it did fall about $15 million short of predictions.

Buffista Movies 6: lies and videotape
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
it did fall about $15 million short of predictions.
Drag.
t edit That doesn't actually seem like that much of a shortfall for a blockbuster movie. Or am I (again) hopelessly clueless?
t edit again Can someone remind me what "GTA" stands for? Because all I'm coming up with is "G____ Transit Authority," and I'm reasonably sure it's not a videogame about how much fun it is to take the subway.

What do you mean? I read they were only predicting $70 million. Unless by "predictions" you mean that every new movie is expected to break the latest record.

Grand Theft Auto. It's so cute that you're clueless.
Iron Man actually exceeded expectations, according to what I read. Maybe Laga is referring to "Grand Theft Auto."
(two answers! one paragraph!)
Grand Theft Auto, Tep.
Perhaps our theatre chain forecasted high but we were hoping for $115 mil; 75% of what Spider-Man 3 did this same weekend last year.
The studio line is that it exceeded expectations, although in reality I think it was probably slightly short of what they were hoping. (It was 4000+ prints in the US alone, after all). That said, it's certainly nothing they can grumble about - it's sequel numbers.
I actually didn't think about the idea GTA may engross people so much they don't other things. In between my first and last post I was playing GTA, also.
Yeah, this article: [link] says Iron Man was predicted to make $60 million, possibly $70 million at best, and it got a little over $100 million domestic and $96-ish million overseas.
Not too shabby.

Quiet, you! (But thanks for the info....I was kind of close, right? In that...it's about...vehicles...? Shut up!)
