The studio line is that it exceeded expectations, although in reality I think it was probably slightly short of what they were hoping. (It was 4000+ prints in the US alone, after all). That said, it's certainly nothing they can grumble about - it's sequel numbers.
I actually didn't think about the idea GTA may engross people so much they don't other things. In between my first and last post I was playing GTA, also.
Yeah, this article: [link] says Iron Man was predicted to make $60 million, possibly $70 million at best, and it got a little over $100 million domestic and $96-ish million overseas.
Not too shabby.
Grand Theft Auto. It's so cute that you're clueless.
Quiet, you! (But thanks for the info....I was kind of close, right? In that...it's about...vehicles...? Shut up!)
try MGS.
Metropolitan-Governed Sewers.
some of the most fun I ever had playing video games was driving a city bus. OK yeah, I was driving it the wrong way on Lake Shore Drive.
I don't think cracking the 9-figure mark in 3 days would be anything to be disappointed about for any movie, considering it did better than Matrix Reloaded and a bunch of the Harry Potter movies over the same span.
from our perspective it fell really short of predictions because our theatre only got one print and the theatre two blocks away was showing three prints on four screens.
Metropolitan-Governed Sewers.
Hee hee hee. Not even close.

It's the second-biggest non-sequel opening ever.
Metal Gear Solid!
That's the one where the guy gets an exclamation point over his head, right? When we do the Video Games Live concert, they have a guy who prowls around on stage in costume, and then he's surprised by something, and the exclamation point pops up over his head. It's cute.
That's the one, Dana. I love the exclamation point and the accompanying sound effect.
(Also, it appears over the guard's head, not Snake's.)
