Buffista Movies 6: lies and videotape
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
My fave comic book movies:
- Ghost World
- American Splendor
- V for Vendetta
- X-Men 1
- X-Men 2
- Sin City
Didn't like Spiderman 1, Batman Begins, or Superman.
I adore "V for Vendetta" Unholy love for that movie have I. It's probably #1 for me.
Dark Knight isn't until December, I think.
No, it's summer. July 18.
No, it's summer. July 18.
Huh. Why did I think it was winter?
I'm going senile or something.
Dark Knight isn't until December, I think.
July, I thought. (Pleasepleaseplease.) t edit Thanks to the x-post, I can say: yay!!!!
But I think you and I are one with the "WTF?! He's a skeevy disco guy? THIS is 'evil Pete'? THIS?!"
Freaking Little Nicky, is what he was.
Also: "PICK A FUCKING VILLAIN! Has the first Batman movie franchise taught you NOTHING?! One villain: Awesome. Two villains: Can still be awesome. THREE VILLAINS: Constructed Entirely of SUCK!"
Well, I do get WHY they needed all 3 -- Goblin!Harry had to be evil so that he could have his Big Redemptive Death. If (in addition to Goblin!Harry) the movie had only Sandman or only Venom, Pete could have dispatched the Big Bad pretty plausibly. But having BOTH made it necessary for newly-good!asspull!Harry to team up with Pete.
But I agree -- I'm not sure that any director could have made it work, which means they should have changed the plot.
Sandman...well, that wasn't so great a story-line, so I don't mind that they wasted it. I DO mind that they wasted my time by including it at all.
The CGI was nifty, and I liked that Sandman wasn't just a one-dimensional baddie. And that's about all I can say about him.
Venom: WAY TO BRING HIM IN TOO LATE TO DO ANYTHING, RAIMI!
Not to mention that the symbiote was never named in the movie. Plus -- IT DOESN'T TURN PETE INTO TWO WILD AND CRAZY GUYS!!!! Okay? It's EVIL, not douchey!
Hmph. Still mad about that.
Right there with you.
And the dance scene? And deus ex butler? No no no no no, a thousand times no.
Wasn't the backstory there that Raimi hated Venom and didn't want him in the movie AT ALL, so he made sure that he (a) was in the movie as little as possible and (b) couldn't come back for Spidey 4?
Not that it matters - whatever the meta reasoning, it was still a pretty sucktastic storyline.
"NO NO NO!! That's Ozzy Osbourne! Not [insert name of Iron Man]"
HAH!!!
I'm not incredibly familiar with the source text, but I'm still psyched to see the movie (Iron Man, I mean).
couldn't come back for Spidey 4?
Actually, given the way the comic has dealt with bringing Venom back, it could be done.
Though not by Sam Raimi.
Raimi hated Venom and didn't want him in the movie AT ALL
That's insane troll logic, because Venom is TEH AWESOME.
Is there going to be a Spidey 4? Anyone heard anything?
