Buffista Movies 6: lies and videotape

A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

Hey! I was hating everybody WAY before Sean and nobody's ever given me Fernet and a cigarette!

Dude, count your blessings! Based on the cocktails you were warning me about at the Old Absinthe House, Fernet would kick your ass, steal your wallet, and dump you in an alley.

Always Anti-fascist!

I always thought if there was a movie of my life(shut up!) JJL should be the one to play me. Lately there is someone else who's been in indie movies, but in posting that, she's vanished. I don't remember who I thought of. dag. Lucky I'm going nowhere then.

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

erika, you know who could totally play you? (Although she'd have to cut her hair, natch.) Natasha Lyonne.

juliana (upthread re: movies set in Alaska)...

What did you think of Limbo?

I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I miss them all tonight…

What did you think of Limbo?

... Huh. I've never seen it, but now I really think I need to check it out. At the very least, just because it looks like they did the entirety of location filming in Juneau.

I liked Limbo. But then again, I like most John Sayles so that's not surprising. Plus David Strathairn.

I am the fly who dreams of the spider

The one thing I remember from Limbo was that it was very aptly named, and that I don't think I cared for it.

But I am not a "Lady or the Tiger" fan.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

Apparently it is a movie you love or hate. I think the ending is polarizing.

I happened to really like the film and I was unsettled by Lone Star.

I don't know if I didn't like it because I was expecting some sort of bow or because my inner completist was offended, or because I didn't care for the characters journey enough to have been brought all the way for that, or because I actually had come to care for the characters and wanted to know what their fate was.

Too much/not enough vaguery and spoiler-fonting?

You should know I'm a big deal in the Resistance.

I finally finished Sexy Beast. I did enjoy it, even though I found myself thinking making you hate a guy so you can enjoy watching him beaten to death is so cliche. Ben Kingsley really transcended the stereotypical confines of that role. And the skipping ahead to the heist trick totally worked on me so I was just as shocked as the characters had been when they cut back to the wife firing the shotgun.

Still I was a bit taken aback by Donnie Darko's eviller twin tunneling under the pool at the end. I put the commentary on and skipped to the end to see if they'd offer any insight into that directorial choice but they only said how much they liked the ending.

I do agree, even as I fail to grasp the point of it, that it was a very effective use of a cigarette .
