Buffista Movies 6: lies and videotape

A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

Apparently it is a movie you love or hate. I think the ending is polarizing.

I happened to really like the film and I was unsettled by Lone Star.

I am the fly who dreams of the spider

I don't know if I didn't like it because I was expecting some sort of bow or because my inner completist was offended, or because I didn't care for the characters journey enough to have been brought all the way for that, or because I actually had come to care for the characters and wanted to know what their fate was.

Too much/not enough vaguery and spoiler-fonting?

You should know I'm a big deal in the Resistance.

I finally finished Sexy Beast. I did enjoy it, even though I found myself thinking making you hate a guy so you can enjoy watching him beaten to death is so cliche. Ben Kingsley really transcended the stereotypical confines of that role. And the skipping ahead to the heist trick totally worked on me so I was just as shocked as the characters had been when they cut back to the wife firing the shotgun.

Still I was a bit taken aback by Donnie Darko's eviller twin tunneling under the pool at the end. I put the commentary on and skipped to the end to see if they'd offer any insight into that directorial choice but they only said how much they liked the ending.

I do agree, even as I fail to grasp the point of it, that it was a very effective use of a cigarette .

Always Anti-fascist!

Oh, yeah, I think it was Natasha...thanks Tep! Because she is sort of a badass with a soft center, too.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

I saw a free screening of Smart People. It was all right, nothing special. Ellen Page and Thomas Haden Church were entertaining, but the main plot was kind of meh.

There's some LOL stuff from Ellen Page and Thomas Haden Church, but it's just so hard to care about Dennis Quaid's character because he's such an ass. And the editing is weird and it's hard to tell the passage of time, which makes the story a little confusing.

The music is quite nice, however. It's not a bad movie, just not worth going out and paying for. Maybe a matinee if you really like the actors.

"This bar smells like kerosene and stripper tears."

Totally hunting down that Lost Boys movie! "Death by Stereo!"

) only featuring the Coreys as return characters (no Allan Frog)

Yuh huh! Jason Nieulander is listed.

WHY did I read the comments? WHY? WHY?

I'm with on the 'sploding head, but I want to post this in my cubicle (which confuses the boys with it's resemblance to the inside of a comic shop) said in response to a guy who said guys didn't want to see a move with 5 minutes of action followed by 89 minutes of two women talking about how they felt about it

Sarah Connor would like a word with you. So would Lara Croft. I think they want to talk about their feelings…
