Right there with you, Sean.
Juliebird - I saw the first 30 minutes... But then lost the will to live. Well, finish it. It's not that there was bad acting or anything, I just wasn't sure why I was supposed to care about anybody or anything in the movie.
I finished it, Kevin, just because it was so whacked, and it was maybe an hour in before I found someone to care about, and it was only near the end that things became a little more clear, and
way
more WTF?! I think what kept me going is that Sean William Scott's two characters became slightly more intriguing, and so did Justin Timerblake's.
There was definitely way too much "look, we're poking fun at conservatives and liberals and todays hot topics like the war on terror and the Patriot Act and alternative fuels" and about a billion other issues.
I guess I was in the right mood, though, cuz I never thought of turning it off, and I think I liked it, but I really have no clue, because I still have no idea what the fuck I just watched.
I've heard it's a mess, but I bought it anyway, because it's the kind of mess I feel compelled to see. Haven't gotten to it yet, though.
Poor SMG - it seems like every movie she picks to do something off-mainstream turns out to be a mess (e.g. Harvard Man).
It was a mess, but I found it to be more enjoyable than not, even if I don't understand why. I actually got excited when I thought I was finally figuring out what was going on, and then it took a left turn, which I thought was fun (if anyone's read Terri Windling's "The Wood Wife", it's that kind of a left turn).
I think I liked it, but I really have no clue, because I still have no idea what the fuck I just watched.
That's kind of how I felt about Donnie Darko, which was the director's first movie.
Donnie Darko couldn't hold me for more than ten minutes (although the music is fabulous, and now that I've heard the soundtrack, I really don't want to watch the movie because it will ruin the music for me, I'm sure) there was something instinctively
wrong.
I love Donnie Darko, but there's plenty of people on this people who absolutely hated it.

This people on this people hates it so much I can't get through it.
I love it too, Sean. the music definitely adds a whole lot to it. especially the scene in the movie theatre.
people are people
so why should it be
you and I should get along so awfully?
