We have to see the chimp playing hockey! That's hilarious! The ice is so slippery, and, and monkeys are all irrational. We have to see this!

Buffista Movies 6: lies and videotape

A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

I love Donnie Darko, but there's plenty of people on this people who absolutely hated it.

I do believe in killing the messenger, you know why? Because it sends a message. ~ Damon Salvatore

I love it too, Sean. the music definitely adds a whole lot to it. especially the scene in the movie theatre.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

Hearing Richard Kelly's explanations about the movie convinced me he lives so entirely within his own mind that he literally doesn't get the concept of other people thinking in entirely different manners. Or of the need to make his ideas clear to them through some sort of bridging process that builds on common experience before jumping off into dream logic.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

Oh, yeah, it was totally insane. But it had a menacing giant bunny. What's not to love?

(rhetorical question, people)

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Donnie Darko haters of the thread, unite!

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

I enjoyed the movie a lot more before I heard the director's commentary. I think the meaning he was trying to convey is not the meaning most people take away from the film - and that includes those who enjoyed it.

aka "The artist formerly known as Corwood Industries."

I liked the movie pretty well, but avoided the director's cut & commentary like poison.
