Buffista Movies 6: lies and videotape

A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I miss them all tonight…

The Barbarian Invasions is the only Quebecois film I've seen in recent memory. That was Quebecois, right?

Thanks! Are they actually French-Canadian or am I misremembering?

Aren't Godspeed You Black Emporer from Montreal? And Stars? And The Unicorns, who are now called Islands,

When megan says Quebecois, I think she means Francophone Quebecois, not just from Quebec. But those bands are all from Quebec.

Wikipedia says they were born northwest of Montreal and are associated with Quebec's Anglophone community, but have also performed and recorded a lot in French.

Yes, that's Denys Arcand.

When megan says Quebecois, I think she means Francophone Quebecois, not just from Quebec.

Yes. Also, sadly, not cool-but-obscure Corwood bands, but more generic stuff.

Punishingly Intricate

Are they actually French-Canadian or am I misremembering?

They sing in French a lot. They sing one of my favorite Christmas songs, Il est né le divin enfant

Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

Being a lifelong resident of the Southern United States, I am very confused by your distinction.

more generic stuff.

All I got is Celine, then. Hey, completely off-topic (I mean, this is neither a music or lit thread), I just wanted to mention Carl Wilson's 33 1/3 book on Celine Dion is getting great press. He's apparently mainly questioning the state of rock criticism and received ideas of taste. I pre-ordered mine from Amazon a while back, but I've yet to receive a copy.
