so, skip it even if you like sci-fi eye candy?
I saw it for that basic reason, but left feeling annoyed. I think the first 20 minutes or so is serviceable, but the rest is dire.
I still have absolutely no idea why Jamie Bell's character is even in the movie. Like, at all. Or any idea about why Samuel L. Jackson's character was doing what he was doing. Like, at all. The lead character treats his love interest like shit.
I saw a movie Jamie Bell was in last year called Hallam Foe - it was my favourite film of 2007, so I know he can act.
The problems with the film are too numerous to name, but really they start with the script. Whoever wrote it has no idea how to make characters you care about. Or know about.
I give it a thumbs down unless you're really into civil war era supernatural horror.
I didn't even know this was a genre...but you know, I think I could be into it.
We watched
3:10 to Yuma
over the weekend. I'm going to break with conventional wisdom and say I thought it was not very good. The only positive thing I can say is that Christian Bale looked very little like Tom Cruise for once.
Do two movies make a genre? I'm aware of only one other, Ravenous.
I have a deep and abiding love for Ravenous. In fact, maybe I'll watch it tonight. (Yes, we own the DVD. Go on, act surprised.)
Wow, synchronicity! In a very random coincidence, I just recommended Ravenous to a co-worker looking for suspense movies just this very morning. I haven't seen it in years, but something he said reminded me of it.

There's also The Killing Box starring Adrian
Profit
Pasdar. Which I thought wasn't too bad at all ... certainly better than the rating it gets on imdb.
You could also throw in Herschell Gordon Lewis'
2000 Maniacs,
even though it's not technically set during the Civil War.

I'll just repeat this word-for-word. And I just netflixed The Killing Box, which I'd never heard of.
It would appear that the presence of David Arquette is somehow crucial to the genre.
Sits in the RAVENOUS loving/owning corner with Jess and Raq.
I also own the soundtrack album.

Did they have propeller ties and multicolored suspenders back in the Civil War era?
Corwood, just wondering if you ever figured out anything coherent to say about THERE WILL BE BLOOD. I've been thinking about it since I saw it, but I'm damned if I've been able to come up with anything other than "I liked it a lot, but haven't quite decided on that ending yet." The movie seems to be
drinking my milkshake,
so to speak.
