Buffista Movies 6: lies and videotape

A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

I know my own heart and understand my fellow man. But I am made unlike anyone I have ever met. I dare to say I am like no one in the whole world. - Anne Lister

I'm also a fan of the Seventh Victim for it's proto-goth protagonist and it's ending.

After the Lewton discussion here, I remembered that GF bought the boxed set after we rented Cat People and The Curse of the Cat People and enjoyed them. We watched The Seventh Victim last night. Was awesome and strange and creepy! I think we're doing another Lewton tonight. Woot!

"Fuck Western ideologically-motivated gender identification!" Sulu gasped, and came.

For a moment there I was thinking Seventh Veil, but no.

Oh, James Mason.

Always Anti-fascist!

You're just saying that cause he talks like God. (Irrelevant Izzard shoutout)

You should know I'm a big deal in the Resistance.

whoa. I just watched the trailer for Prince Caspian. whoa.

IOmovieN Harry has a spoileriffic review of Cloverfield over at AICN.

Folks – CLOVERFIELD is worth the obsession, worth the months I’ve had to put up with fans wondering what the hell it was – worth having to deal with reporters asking me what it was – and I didn’t know either. This is a towering movie. A complete reinvention of the disaster movie, the giant monster movie and even the love story. I absolutely love this film and the only thought I had when it was over was how I wanted to watch it 5 more times today.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

Well, that's good to hear. I'm excited to see it opening night.

Oh, Eddie Izzard! See, just imagine how happy this little James Mason (James Who? say most of her peers, disinterestedly) fangirl was, back in her late teens, the first time she saw Izzard start blathering on about James Mason. Love Eddie.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

I certainly hope Cloverfield lives up to the hype. But I'm concerned about the reviewer's pick of best part of the movie being the same frizzy-headed stoner dude whose appearances in the latest commercials have me fervently hoping he becomes monster chow ASAP.

It's five thousand for kissing, ten thousand for snuggling... End of list.

I haven't seen the trailer, but TJ Miller is pretty great, in general.

I am the fly who dreams of the spider

Finally saw Eastern Promises and wow, was that good, my only complaint is that it ended.

Right now, to save myself from watching the football game downstairs, I popped in Xanadu which is just as awesome as I remembered it (except for forgetting about the cartoon musical sequence, which made me cringe at first and then it ended up being quite good) and now I'm pissed that the ONJ/GK number was not on the soundtrack. Bastards.

Oh, The Eighties, how embarassing and wonderful you were.
