I'd think someone academically studying religion (including its history and how dogma changes over time) would be fairly openminded about it. At the very least, enough so that she doesn't assume she already knows all the answers.

I would agree. I am on the deist side, but I LOVED my religion classes and considered pursing the study just because it was so gosh darned interesting. Unless the school is a religious one, I imagine you need to study all religions.
