Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

"I'm looking for a book I heard about on the radio. It has the word "business" somewhere in the title, and it's about world markets...I think...Oh, yeah, the author's first name is Bill."

You should say, "I think I know the one you're talking about. Is it the one about how the alien Freemasons forced us to abandon the gold standard? Oh, it's not that one? OK, let's see - is it the one about how we should extend equity loans to sharks?"

edit to add stuff....

Punishingly Intricate

I LOVED those kinds of questions when I worked at my friends' bookstore (up until a couple of weeks ago). It was like fun book detective work! Of course I only worked one day a week so it was easy to take everything in stride. Plus it is a small, indy store which helps filter some less knowledgeable folks out. sort of. It does not filter the freaks out at all! Bless 'em.

Cats to become a rabbit should gather immediately now here

preach it, sister! I just got an email from a student that says "I decided to change from a double to a single, I know it's more expensive, but can you tell me how much? Also, when is the money due?"

Do I LOOK like Residence Life? Do I LOOK like Student Accounts?

I think that what really makes me angry about this is that these inquiries, whether intentional or not, seem to endow the asker with a sense of entitlement that in general, tends to annoy me about students. It could be that they just don't know how to speak/write, but sometimes they just seem so huffy about have to actually explain themselves or if, god forbid, I cannot help them because I am not in the registrar's office, or student accounts. I work at the largest employer in my county, please forgive me that I don't know every single procedure/policy/bit of information from departments other than my own...

Heh. Sometimes I get inquiries that go something like, "Do y'all do [some service we don't provide]." No. "Oh, well can you give me the number of someone who does?"

"Cry havoc and let slip the boobs of war!" -- Miracleman

The other problem is that we tell the students that they will have special treatment, and that I'm here to help them. And I am, but they have to put forth SOME effort. I'm here to help you when you have exhausted your capbilities, not because you don't want to be bothered.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

So, Liz Claiborne is dead and the Spice Girls are going on tour.

That's my news for the day.

Happy birthday, Hec!

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

I may have to negotiate about salary in my interview today. Ick.
