Aw! She's a lawyer, he's a freelance philosopher. Together they fight corporate crime and existential crises! (Plus, it's a feel-good romance!)

So, I got to work early and dressed up, because there's a board meeting. A meeting, BTW, I have nothing to do with, but my boss wants to make sure our department looks good. Anyway, the point is, I sat down, and thought my zipper was undone on my pants, but no! It was the actual seam next to the zipper that came out! WTF, dry cleaners? Luckily, I had a safety pin in my bag.
Oh, great. The building next to ours (Century 21) has been evacuated due to a bomb threat.
Yikes!
That's no way to start a Monday. Are you guys being evacuated, too?
They're letting people back in now.
Bad news: it's coming out on the same day as Heroes BUT it's really, really cheap: $29.98 for a 22-episode set.
A whole bunch of pretty and/or bizarre insects: [link]
Lots o' pretty and strange caterpillars. And some mantises (manti?) that look very much like flowers. Some I had to stare at to figure out what part of the bug was where. And there's this cool fact:
Amazing Caterpillar Fact:
Faecal Firing: Some leaf-rolling caterpillars fire faecal pellets from their anuses... be careful out there.
I think it's sort of like sow-DA-jee.
Yep.
Doesn't shrift speak Portuguese?
I used to be fluent, but I haven't spoken it regularly in about six years, which means I've lost most of it.
I believe shrift does speak Portugese, because she lived in Portugal for a while.
Man, Portugal. Lisbon! Tenho saudades tuas.
Pop culture blindspots. Not all belonging to one person. I must admit, I share more than one...and I wouldn't call not having seen Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas that big a deal. Not like not having seen any Star Wars movie.
Yeah, but....I wanted to grab the author who hadn't seen the movie of Fear and Loathing and smack her repeatedly with THE BOOK (which came first). Hello? Not everything was a movie first.
The pop culture blind spot article was fun, except for the guy who's never seen Citizen Kane. Not that there's anything wrong with not having seen it, but if you haven't seen it you don't get to run around calling it the most overrated movie of all time.
Besides, that honor goes to Magnolia.
I have to say, though, that the guy who said that he'd never read a book by any of the big best-selling authors (Tom Clancy, Stephen King, John Grisham, etc.) has NOTHING to be ashamed of.
