I just noticed that at the bottom of the Message Center, it says "(Minimum 5, use 0 for no refresh.)"
Didn't we change the minimum refresh to something higher?

Do you have problems, concerns or recommendations about the technical side of the Phoenix? Air them here. Compliments also welcome.

We changed it from 3 to 5, IIRC.
We changed it from 3 to 5, IIRC.
We started at 1, but changed it to 5 a few months ago, when we first started having problems with HR.
I thought it was higher, for some reason.
Perhaps we should consider setting the minimum (at least temporarily) to something like 10 or 15, and see if that makes a difference to the server?
Did I say this already? Steven thinks that trying to keep the database as small as we can will benefit us. So yes, the archiving of the closed threads that we're doing [Ha. I say we. Like I'm actually doing anything.] will help.
Which reminds me: DX, I am willing to grab, fix links, and archive things. Just tell me how.
Am I correct in understanding that hitting Read New is easier on the resources than going back to the Message Board and picking which thread to read next?
Yes. It's one less call to the database.
Yes. It's one less call to the database.
Keeping this in mind, I've changed my board reading tactics. I pruned back my subscriptions to just the boards I want to read regularly through Read New. Previously, I used my subs as sort of a filter to pull up all the threads I'm even somewhat interested in and would check my Message Center and decide where to go. Now, I've got a tighter subs list and I'm embracing the randomosity of the ride. Where will Read New take me next?

Stop copying me. This is exactly what I did.
Should there be clearer or more prominant instructions on how to use the message center and/or subscribe to threads? I have seen several messages from people who don't even know what the message center does-- and that seems to mean that they don't know what subscribing to a thread does either.
