I battle evil. But I don't really win. The bad keeps coming back and getting stronger. Like that kid in the story, the boy that stuck his finger in the duck.

You always do this. We get tipsy, and you take advantage of my love of the scientific method.

As I noted in Bureaucracy, the perl script that John wrote to threadsuck WX threads doesn't seem to work anymore. It reads the first page of posts, then can't find the next page, so it stops. The end of sucked thread indicates that the link used for the next page is incorrect. I suspect WX may have changed the way it references the next page, but I don't have the perl knowledge to do anything about it even if I could figure out what's going on. Does anyone want to have a go at seeing if they can get it to work? A copy of the script is here.

I adore all you motherfuckers so much -- PMM.

DX, up at the top of the script, $SITE is defined as "http://www.worldcrossing.com"

If you change that line to $SITE = "http://wc1.worldcrossing.com"

... that should fix things, I hope.

D'oh! I looked right at that, and it didn't occur to me it was wrong. Thanks, Karl. That did the trick.

Sometimes it just takes a pair of eyes that haven't been staring at it too hard.

Happens to me with my own code way too much.

And of course *now* I can't get to our forums again. Bother.

I think that if I can get into WX again, I'm going to try to create a new Buffistas forum on one of the new servers, and then try to move our stuff off wc1, which seems to be the problematic one. I have no idea if that's even possible, but I think it's worth a shot. Any thoughts?

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

But be careful -- I've read reports that forums on WC3 disappear.

Ficht nicht mit Der Raketemensch!

WC1 is being nuked soon, as it's causing the roblems. WX aren't allowing movement of threads - we'd have to suck the WC1 ones and create new.

The system put the new forum on wc0. It's here, and I've set up the usual stompies. Right now it's set so that only stompies can get into it. Now if wc1 will just cooperate at some point...

eta: Although with some fiddling, it turns out I could've put it on any of the servers.

Frell!! I was able to get into the old forums, but the system apparently won't let me move the stuff to a different server. I can move threads from one forum to another on wc1, but when I try to move something to the forum on wc0, it tells me it can't find the source thread. Double bother...
