I learned this word thanks to "Alice in Wonderland":
"I wonder if I shall fall right through the earth! How funny it'll seem to come out among the people that walk with their heads downwards! The Antipathies, I think -- " (she was rather glad there was no one listening, this time, as it didn't sound at all the right word) " -- but I shall have to ask them what the name of the country is, you know. Please, Ma'am, is this New Zealand or Australia?" (and she tried to curtsey as she spoke -- fancy curtseying as you're falling through the air! Do you think you could manage it?) "And what an ignorant little girl she'll think me! No, it'll never do to ask: perhaps I shall see it written up somewhere."
The official term for Australians and New Zealanders is actually "Australasians"--although everyone just misreads that as "Australians" so it's not very satisfactory.
It is fun to hear them bad-mouthing each other
Sure, once the translator shows up.

Thanks Angus. I think I'll wait anyway, and not just because I can't be bothered reproducing what I wrote. Looks like I might be the only one who's seen it thus far. Leigh, unfortunately I couldn't tape tonight due to head damage (Hee! I said 'head'!) so I can't even help you out. I actually came pretty close to forgetting about it too - I blame it on the Buffy repeats. Not watching Buffy on Monday nights throws out my whole inner TV schedule.
Ah, we love each other really. Kiwis are adorable! Those accents are to die for!
!Yes! I saw Whale Rider last Friday. Fell in love with the voice of every single character.
My TV briefly decided to just stop working tonight. My first thought was "but...but...but...Buffy! Angel!" (I admit my second thought was "but...but...Big Brother!") Fortunately it seems to have been a temporary ailment.

What ever happened to "Oceania"? We learned that in fifth grade as the official name for your part of the world.
Not that you would have missed much on Big Brother Up Late tonight. All sleepy heads.
I was getting really into Big Brother but I think this whole Have and Have-not thing is going to put me off watching. I hate when there's tension over food and priviledges and stuff like that. I want real human drama, not stuff orchestrated by a gimmick.
HA! I just realised how stupid that sounds. The whole show is human behaviour orchestrated by a gimmick.
Yeah, I don't much like the have/have not idea either Emlah, plus evicting Kim and Saxon has just made the house so much less interesting! For God's sake, people, get rid of Vincent and Patrick, they're dead weight! This has been far and away the best BB so far though, so I still have hope. Still loving Chrissie and Reggie and Dan.
(Thrilled to finally have another Aussie BB fan!)

Oh, and Trudy, I've only ever heard Oceania used as a geographical term; nobody says "Oceanians". It's like you have the Pacific Rim but you don't have Pacific Rimmers. (boom-boom!...or, as it were, rim shot)
There are Europeans, dammit!
