Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

Ficht nicht mit Der Raketemensch!

Is "gazumping" an actual legal term?

Yes

A survey is something paid for buy the buyer which ensures that the house is sound, stable, won't need any major works soon, etc. Mostly important in houses like mine which are 150+ years old. The Boundaries and deeds stuff is called a "search" and is done by your lawyer.

And yes, house Prices are still rising in most of London and the SE - but the rate of rise has dropped from about 25-40% a year to about 10-20%.

Brit survey = U.S. inspection; Brit search = U.S. title search

Yes! Edgar, the head butler, is a wonderful character. It's Must See TV.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

I'd noticed that in the TV listings, but forgotten about it. Thanks for the reminder. I'll definitely be watching. (Um, in between the studying. But I can kind of claim it as educational.)

Roguish Laird

Yes, in the UK and Australia it was called the Edwardian Country House. It's absolutely brilliant. I expect several Buffistas to be writing Edwardian Country House slash in a very short while.

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

Heh. PBS purchased a promo to run on all TiVos (not mandatory to view, but easy to click into if you're interested).

meara - Apr 28, 2003 9:21:45 am PDT #4245 of 9843

Did not watch the TIVo promo, but do have it set up to record the thing. Are there only three episodes? Or are they just showing those three in a row, and showing more later?
