Literary Buffistas 3: Don't Parse the Blurb, Dear.

There's more to life than watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No. Really, there is! Honestly! Here's a place for Buffistas to come and discuss what it is they're reading, their favorite authors and poets. "Geez. Crack a book sometime."

lol im now about 80% done with Ministry of Time but amusingly was talking to a friend at trivia who revealed she was ALSO in the midst of reading it! Synchronicity. Or library holds coming free at the same time. One or the other.

But I have momentarily abandoned it in favor of gay hockey romance.

"...and then Legolas and the Hulk destroy the entire Greek army." - Penny Arcade

Hey, guys. Sorry to pop up to deliver bad news. Last night author Peter Morwood passed away unexpectedly. His wife, Diane Duane, posted the news on her tumblr:

She put a Ko-Fi link in the post for those who want to donate directly, but does anyone know what the best platform to use to buy her books that would get the greatest return back to her?

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

She hosts her own site and sells directly from there. Lemme find it...

So come, my friends, be not afraid/We are so lightly here/It is in love that we are made; In love we disappear

The always-delightful Peter was one of my favorite follows on Tumblr, and I'm so sad for Diane Duane and the rest of his loved ones. What a loss.

The status is NOT quo.

The Tainted Cup, by Robert Jackson Bennett
Really good read. Another I just discovered this week and enjoyed the hell out of was The Raven Scholar by Antonia Hodgson. It follows some of the coming-of-age, fight-in-a-giant-contest-to-rule tropes, but it is really well written with a protagonist I really liked. It's also refreshingly witty with a raven god and...you know, I'm not going to do it justice, but the ravens are amazing.

Another recommendation for a clever, cozy riff off Arthurian legend is Greenteeth by Molly O'Neill. There's a wonderful female friendships at the heart of that one.

I haven't read any of Peter Morwood's work, but that's very sad.

I'm 368th in line for "Ministry of Time" at my library. Only 30th for "Raven Scholar" and 25th for "Greenteeth". There is a sequel to "Tainted Cup" but my library has not bought it yet. I'm feeling very put upon.

My plan is to read Ministry of Time on Sunday, when I can start reading again and am taking a whole-ass laze and leisure day because finally time to, so, yay. Then I have a couple books lined up, but I can't even remember what they are. They're on my little table in the office, and the library just renewed them.

I'm sorry for his family and friends; that's very sad.

I admit I am still extremely confused by the ending of Ministry of Time? But I did finish. Also finished my gay hockey book.
