It's a bit of profane genius right up there with Lee Ermey's rants in Full Metal Jacket.
"You had best UNFUCK yourself!" is perhaps my favorite line ever.
House update. Work's still hectic. Will try to contribute a real music-related post soon. Hope everyone is well. Hec, glad to hear JZ's better (I haven't even lurked much recently so if I just put my foot in my mouth I apologize; I'm referring to the scare from a couple(?) weeks ago.)
Gotta get back to work before the sarge gouges out my eyeball and skullfucks me.
Loudon Wainwright sings about the filthiest song I've heard, "Good Ship Venus." It's a bit of profane genius right up there with Lee Ermey's rants in Full Metal Jacket.
It's really amazingly filthy. I know of exactly one singing group at the RenFaire who sings it, and they send out a bouncer to march away all the under-18s in the audience before they start their set. If you've ever wondered what the difference is between
bawdy
and
filthy,
this song clears up that distinction right quick, by the end of the first verse.
And, yup, the Halloweenie and I are fine. Stir-crazy, and slowly driving the incredibly patient and loving Hec insane, but physically just fine.
The post-Johnny Rotten Sex Pistols also did a version of the "Good Ship Venus" ... or so I seem to recall.
I'm betting none of the versions can compare to The Anti-Nowhere League's song, "So What" for pure filth! :)
I am pretty sure I have haven't been this hungover in more than ten years.
Here is my much edited and very drunkenly written e-mail to my best friend e about last night's Split Lip show here in Chicago (she had seen them a few nights before in Wichita amongst all their families and commented that she was shocked at Kirk's appearance but impressed with how happy he looked to be playing):
Holymotherfuckingshit. That was maybe the best Split Lip show I've ever seen. C and I were front row center for the whole thing. Kirk's voice was weaker but god did he look happy. He sweated through his shirt and through his hat, until the sweat was pouring off the brim of his hat just like always. He broke four strings. I wish you could have heard the crowd while he was changing strings - it was deafening. C and I were amongst good Lawrence folk and we all agreed it was as good as any Bottleneck crowd.
As un rock-n-roll as it is, I got weepy after the show - it was too much. Kirk is so skinny- not the same, but you are right, he had a huge fucking smile the whole time.
After, we waited outside in front of the van with DG county plates. Jeff came out and we talked Winfield. I told him I was so happy they were playing stage 5 and he said "well, we are planning on it." I told him what he already knew - that Kirk had a lot of people vibing for him.
Finale note: they ended the show with "San Antone" - holy god. "If you want to die with me, let's go."
Too much.
I basically just left out the parts where I wrote "I'm so drunk." about ten times. And that I approached Wayne (mandolin) after I talked to Jeff (bass) and he looked at me like "Great. I haven't talked to ENOUGH drunk Kansans tonight." So, I could have made a slightly more graceful exit, but what the hell. It was a fun and amazingly sad show.
I was thinking of getting "Rogue's Gallery" for my pirate-obsessed son; thanks to the Buffistas I know to edit the CD before I give it to him. Though I'm pretty sure most of the filthy stuff would fly right over his wee head, but still.
(Glad to hear you're both feeling well, JZ!)
Boy, when I kill a thread, I
really
kill a thread.
So... heard any good tunes lately?
I was just watching some very old Dr. Who (The Dalek Invasion of Earth with the first Doctor), and there was some
great
incidental music throughout. I especially liked this 3 minute percussive thing they used while Barbara and another woman were running through London. So much so that I extracted the audio and will likely play it on my show this Friday.
About a week ago, I heard the title track from the German group Leichtmetall's new album, and it was playing in my head all day until I finally went and bought the track from iTunes.
This is sad! Poor Dinosaur Jr....
After a blistering set last night in Brooklyn, NY the band awoke this morning to find that the their trailer had been broken into and all of the gear has been taken.
J's Amma guitar, the mountain man guitar, Lou's Rickenbacker... EVERYTHING IS GONE. They are still taking inventory to see what else is gone but they were pretty much wiped out.
...
listed below is a list of gear that was stolen out of the Dinosaur Jr trailer last night (Tuesday 8.29.06) outside of their hotel in Long Island City, NY. We would appreciate spreading the word and passing this list around in hopes of recovering their gear. Please notify and alert your local guitar shops, pawn shops, music and web stores etc. to keep an eye out for this gear. Feel free to send this list to any and all band, tour and production managers, guitar freaks, touring personnel, venues, musicians and or thieves that you think could help us.
With a list of stuff and contact info following....

I've been playing Myst IV in drips and drabs when I get a few moments, and the music is really good. I know the Myst games aren't necessarily everyone's cup of tea, but there's a couple of pieces on the score that are so good, I want to rip them off the DVD and put them in my music collection.
There's a few "adventure movie" cliches, but they handle them well, and put a bit of a new twist on them.
