Buffista Music III: The Search for Bach

There's a lady plays her fav'rite records/On the jukebox ev'ry day/All day long she plays the same old songs/And she believes the things that they say/She sings along with all the saddest songs/And she believes the stories are real/She lets the music dictate the way that she feels.

The Decemberists' and Eric Matthews's contributions to an Elliot Smith tribute

I think theirs are two of the weaker tracks on that album, C.I, especially the Matthews' cover. I like the Dolorean ("The Biggest Lie" done country style - so freaking good) and We are Telephone ("Division Day") which should be somewhere on my round robin mix on buffistarawk2 if you don't want to waste a credit on it.

Tortoise and Bonnie Prince Billy - The Brave and the Bold

Report back on this one. It's on my Save for Later list.

That's exactly where I am. I actually liked the Matthews cover pretty well, but was less than whelmed by the Decemberists'.

So far, it's ok at best, pointless at worst. Better than Oldham's Greatest Palace Songs or whatever that Nash Vegas-sounding travesty was called, but overall not so great.

Awww, c'mon! The Devo cover is brilliant!

I'm currently logged in at the Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe, VT. Photos of Maria & the kids are everywhere. Must dress for dinner. If I hear any tunes from the Sound of Music, I may have to kill myself.

Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

The good thing that happened to me today:

Dear Patient WFMU Supporter,

Enclosed please find your long-awaited 2004 Marathon premium — Yo La Tengo Is Murdering the Classics. If you reach back into the mists of time, you may recall Gaylord Fields offering this as a thank you for pledges to his show that year. Please accept our apologies for the delay in getting this to you. The band needed to jump through some complicated legal hoops in order to secure the rights to the nearly 40 songs on this CD. We hope you will find it, like all good things, worth the wait.

Enjoy Yo La Tengo Is Murdering the Classics, and thanks again for your support of WFMU, not to mention your extraordinary patience.

The CD is so new, I had to submit the track names to the CDDB myself.

AAAAAAAAUUUUUGGGGHHH!!!!!!

The new Tool single, off the new album due out in May, is out TODAY! And they've played it on the radio. I've heard the DJs talking about it in both future and past tense today whilst driving around, but I HAVEN'T HEARD IT YET! I have not been able to time my driving around (typically the only time I get to listen to the radio) whilst the song was actually playing.

For a Toolhead like me, this is absolutely the worst kind of torture.

How's the YLT CD, Tom? I ordered it from their website last week.

I knew that topless lady had something up her sleeve. - John Prine

Oneida - Each One Teach One

Is Papa Crazy on that one? Can't remember when he left. He's married to my BIL's little sister. He has a country band now. Can't remember what they're called. Can't remember much, including when I got here. I think it was around 10:30 yesterday morning. Time to go sleep for a couple hours before coming back.

How's the YLT CD, Tom?

Considering that they're taking requests on the phone for any song, and then playing it on the spot, it's pretty fucking amazing.

A few of the songs sound rehearsed. Their version of "20th Century Boy" is almost worth the entire CD for.

Looks like it's the first one after he left, but I have an earlier album on my eMusic queue.
