I've really got to learn to just do the damage and get out of town. It's the 'stay and gloat' that gets me every time.

Yesterday, one of the headlines on Yahoo said "IAEA to help in Iran Crisis" which I thought read "Ikea to help in Iran Crisis" and wondered what the hell they were going to do.

Send laminate bookshelves to EVERYONE!

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Yesterday, one of the headlines on Yahoo said "IAEA to help in Iran Crisis" which I thought read "Ikea to help in Iran Crisis" and wondered what the hell they were going to do.

What they really need over there is some affordably-priced yet stylish furniture!

Anyway, I mostly need help with, like, how to start the email. Because I'm thinking maybe not, "Yo, professor lady! 'Sup with the prerequisites? Level with me here, I do not need calc three to learn about how many cultures knew the Pythagorean Theorem before the rise of Greece, right? Cut me some slack, Jack."

"Dear Dr. X: I am extremely interested in the History of Math course you are teaching this fall, and am wondering if there is any flexibility with the prerequisites. I have taken Calc 2 and linear algebra and [blah blah love math or something], so I just wanted to check with you to see if there was any way for me to get into your class. I plan on being a math teacher blah blah...."

Like that. It doesn't have to be all that formal, just slightly smarty-pants and love-of-learning-ish.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I imagine some of the rage is coming from people who have as little, or less, and consider it right that they pull themselves up by their bootstraps. And other portions of it from the unwanted attention cash-for-fic could bring.

I think that if people ask for money and get it, power to them. The problem is in how large a shadow that request throws.

There were some loose goats in my neighborhood a few days ago.

Where are they now?

Roland, huh?

Sadly, IKEA might be able to handle reconstruction better.

I think the people who owned the goats rounded them up.

Really, who wouldn't rather get free money, as opposed to working some crappy temp job?

By the time they get them set up, they'll have no energy left to build a nuclear arsenal. It's a perfect plan!

There's definitely this aspect. She's possibly something (insert word of your choice here) for asking. And in some ways, she is no worse than the utne woman who got people to collect for a new computer for her.
