I just had a thought. Don't bother watching TV. I imagine the direct-to-DVD market for decent things, and not just pathetic Disney sequels, will be appearing fairly soon.

oh joy! Oh Rapture ! I have a brain!

my sister, who is a firefly fan , but not in the US, just reliezed that firefly was on SF now. so I gave he rthe whole story of firefly. ending with something about about tv exec and monkey crack.

part of her reply

Now, if we can only get TV execs to smoke some crack that makes them appreciate good writing, innovative ideas.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

My sister (who already owns the Proulx) informs me they're screening Brokeback Mountain in Toronto next month.

Yeah, well, Kenya sure will be a nice salve to having to wait until Winter.

"In the equation E = mc⬧, c⬧ is a pretty big honking number." - Scola

Hi everybody! I'm back!

Looking for advice: I have to email a professor to ask if she'll let me into her history of math class even though I don't have all the prerequisites (specifically, Calc III and maybe Differential Equations). I think I have a pretty good case -- mainly, that I plan to be teaching math next fall and would like to have some history of math under my belt for it -- but I've never actually done this before. How do I phrase it?

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

Ooh, Toronto Film Festival? I keep meaning to try to go up for that, and it always catches me by surprise at the end of the summer.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

He was taken to Exeter Hospital, where a locksmith was called to remove the lock.

Poor locksmith....

On the plus side, a great story to tell for years to come.

Veteran emergency room nurses in San Francisco can all run off a list of unexpected objects they've had to remove from various asses.

Or did I miss the part in the bible about taxation without representation?

"Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's"?

well, that's just plain taxation.

you might want to mention other courses that you've taken that you think could be comparable. You could also ask to audit the class, which she may be more comfortable with (if you don't need the credit and are just taking it for hte info)
