The only finales I watched in real time were Restless, Chosen, The Gift and Grave, and I would rate them in that order.
Also, I swear to DOG! that I completely and totally beleived that Buffy was dead dead and that they would continue the show without her. It took me at least a day to realize that that wasn't true. I also thought perhaps SMG would leave the show and Buffy would end up in someone else's body.
Aww. That's just the cutest story. Must go dig up my OMWF CD when I get home.
Faith, hope and Trick is on FX right now, East coast/central feed.
A moment, as Buffy looks down, gathers something in herself.
BUFFY
Angel was cured.
GILES
I'm sorry?
BUFFY
When I killed him, Angel was...
cured. Your spell worked, Willow.
Last minute. I was about to take him
out and something went through him
and then he was... Angel again. He
didn't remember anything he'd done,
he just held me, and...
(this is tough)
... but it was, it was too late and
I had to... I kissed him, and I told
him that I loved him. And I killed him.
Beauty and the Beasts is on now. I've noticed some Faith foreshadowing.
Now Buffy moves to Faith -
who is bopping away from her. Buffy gently taps her shoulder.
Faith spins and SMASHES BUFFY in the face. Hard. Buffy stumbles
back.
BUFFY
Oww - !
Faith sees what she's done.
Rips the headphones off. We can HEAR strains of SCREAMING HEAVY
METAL through them.
FAITH
Buffy! Are you okay!?
What are you doing here?
So basically we were being set up for Faith's future, I see.
And in the same conversation:
BUFFY
I figured. Ow - again.
(then)
I came to give you the rest of the night off.
FAITH
Get out of jail free, huh? How come?
Intentional or not, foreshadows Faith's path.
I'm going to be contrary again and put The Gift and Chosen at the bottom of my list. This is because in both cases the solution for the season's problem was "use a bigger weapon." The writers kind of wrote themselves into corners with too-powerful-can't-be-beaten Big Bads, and wussed out (IMHO) both times by pulling a SuperWeapon from elsewhere.
It's like they want us to vote for increased defense spending or something.
I liked a lot else about each of the two, but they weren't nearly the personal impact of Becoming or Grad Day, or as funky cool as Restless.
Prophecy Girl, Becoming, Restless, Graduation Day, The Gift, Chosen, Grave.
I'm going to be contrary and say I liked almost nothing about either Grave or Chosen. Chosen edges out Grave for second to last place largely due to the fact that Spike died in it. Also, no yellow crayon speech.
