And even more broadly, how does the world change now that some unknown number of ordinary-looking women can beat the unholy crap out of anyone who crosses them in any way?
You mean other than for the better?
This is where we talk about Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No spoilers though?if you post one by accident, an admin will delete it. This thread is NO LONGER NAFDA. Please don't discuss current Angel events here.

Oh yes, I'm sure the demonic power that gives Slayers their strength was careful to choose only highly moral Potentials imbued with a passion for helping people and who will vow to use their superstrength only for good.
'Cause, it's not like Faith ever caused any problems.

(My 'for the better' quip was a quip in the battle of the sexes or damn-the-man kind of vein, not a canon vein)
Seriously though, of course there will be bad slayers. But that sort of argument ("What If They Misuse Their Power") has been trotted out to oppose giving women the right to vote, freeing slaves, you name it. It doesn't reach me.

Those parallels only work if there were already an unknown number of men with superstrength that are only now balanced by the number of new Slayers.
Chosen didn't equalize any balance of power, it tipped it rather monstrously in favor of, not women, but hundreds of teenage girls. You seriously believe that's not a recipe for disaster?

'NSync is screwed....
Plus, seeing Jonothan (Jonathon? neither looks right, dammit) giving the award to her and making his speech is going to give me additional allergies given how things ended up.

BWAH!
Faith wouldn't have caused problems if Buffy would have just been nicer to her.
Think I can start a kerfuffle?

No, you're working within the wrong categories. It's not a male-female thing. It's a human vs. demon thing, and as far as I can gather from canon, there are still way more demons than there are slayers.

Again, canon suggests there are likely to be way more demons around than slayer-powered humans.
Do I think there will be some slayer-caused disasters, girls who weren't ready, or can't handle it, or become corrupted? Oh yeah. But there's still whole army of slayers to help reign in corrupt!or-crazy!slayer. In the pre-Buffy past, there were no super-powered humans to reign in the Faithlike slayers.
The fate of the world has always previously rested on the shoulders of 1 teenaged girl. Now it's a problem because there are more? How does that fit in with the BtVS mission?
Jonothan (Jonathon? neither looks right, dammit)
That's because it is Jonathan.
