I don't know if this is explicit, but I got the impression that Willow's spell essentially used up slayerosity and shot it all in one wad.
See, and I thought that from now on, every girl who could be a slayer, would be a slayer -- so if there are 750 proto-slayers born in 2004, by 2020 there will be 750 new-ish slayers, plus however many slayers from previous generations are still around.
Which means, of course, that I though all
current
potentials were activated, but with no implicit effect on future potentials.

See, I was applying the idea in Fray that there hadn't been slayers in a long time.
The thing is, I'm coming at it with no Fray knowledge except what I've picked up from stray comments here. But from what I understand, Fray canon is that Slayers were "extinct" when the story started. So I see where my version doesn't fit with that.
I'll check the actual wording of the spell.
I'm with Lyra Jane. I thought every girl that could be, would be, forevah' and evah'. And that, plus a couple other things (the magic and vamps being sucked into the vortex, Mel never hearing/reading about multiple slayers when she learns about them) make it not fit into Fray continuity for me.
Not that I'm complaining. IJS.
If that's true, that it's all used up, it was a really dangerous spell.
OK. Here. We know that in Fray the magic and vamps all got sucked in the vortex - so that is why the Slayer line ended. Because demons and magic were all banished. That way you can have multiple slayers into the future and still explain them being gone when Mel is called.
If that works, it is my first wank.

I'm thinking it's the plot bunny between Chosen and Fray. How Buffy or somebody Buffylike killed off all the vamps on earth.

In which case we're back to two-year-olds with Slayer strength, which is... an amusingly evil thought for me, but then I've never been a parent.

Eh. It seems like girls are potentials form the time they're born, but can't become slayers at least until puberty. (The youngest Potential we saw activated was Softball Girl, who looked 11 or 12.)
What I would wonder about would be 80-year-old Slayers.
