Were there fic threads at TableTalk, before there was LiveJournal? Or did fandoms rely on Yahoo groups, fic sites, and mailing lists?
For fandom in general? There might have been one thread, but yes, fandoms were using mailing lists mostly, with some message board stuff and usenet.
Man, I have an author who is genuinely not understanding my question. His article said the equivalent of (not the actual numbers) "In this study, 25 of 100 patients (87.2%) were women." Well, that math doesn't work. And so I asked him to explain how he got 87.2%, when anyone with a calculator can see that the math doesn't work.
And he answered something like "It's the subgroup of people treated -- you could say '25 of 50 patients (87.2%) were women'." GUY, THE MATH DOESN'T WORK.
So I had to reply again saying THE MATH DOESN'T WORK and we won't publish incorrect information so please give me the numbers you used to arrive at 87.2% OR just change the percentage to 50%. If he still doesn't get it, I may have to send the freelance coordinator after him. Sometimes I don't explain things very clearly (or, I should say, they're clear to ME, but not to other people [thanks, brain!]), but this is definitely not one of those cases. Math is math, yo.
He's from Denmark. Maybe their math is different?
Hey, Beverly, insent to your profile address...
Ha! I just got an email back from the Danish author, who said (for real) "OMG! You are right! The subgroup numbers aren't provided in the manuscript! I'll get them from the statistician and send them to you!"
I made that happen just by posting about it.
So let's see if I can continue manipulating the universe by posting about things...
I'm going to go vote in the primary for Hillary Clinton, the next POTUS.

I am intrigued by your ideas and wish to subscribe to your newsletter.
Today I was at lunch and the two women in the booth in front of me started talking politics and Donald Trump. This is North Carolina so I braced myself, I couldn't hear all of it and then one woman started to get animated. "He's for women being equal. Like equal pay. I mean they can't hire you and say 'we're paying you less' they just do. And he's gonna stop that. " Okay that sounds like Bernie but I wasn't sure.
She went on and then rounded back to Trump and
So, a faculty member I have known for 20 years was arrested on federal child pornography charges this morning, I learn from the news. Now, this is a classics faculty member who studies sexuality, so this could be a case of "the FBI really does not understand academic research." But it could also be a case of "person studies something academically because they have a personal interest in it." And now everything is horrible and yucky.
I saw that on the news and figured you knew him. Man, that's a mess.
I was looking up sweet and sour sauce recipes online, because I have chicken I need to do things with. I was surprised at the number of recipes that had ketchup in them. The pineapple juice/vinegar/brown sugar recipe looked logical (and yummy), but I'm not picturing ketchup in this sauce in any good way.
YIKES, flea!
Connie, ketchup has a lot of sugar and vinegar in it already, doesn't it? I can see it being used in recipes as a sub for multiple other things, on the assumption that people have it in the house.
