That's the thrill of living in the Hellmouth! There's a veritable cornucopia of fiends and devils and ghouls to engage ... Pardon me for finding the glass half-full.

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

Holy shit, Steph, that's truly awful.

The only funeral story I have that comes close to that is my sister-in-law's in-laws. It was horrible anyway, they died in a small plane crash. But she was just in the middle of what was going to be an ugly divorce, and her then-husband brought his mistress to the funeral without warning anyone. Yeah. It didn't go well. And yes, he was grieving both his parents, and I'm sure she was a comfort to him, but jeez, man. I thought the SO's dad was going to march straight up the aisle and strangle both of them.

This weekend is all me frantically preparing for what will be my first real song pitch on Monday. It's kind of chill, because it's to a publisher that I already met and got critique from at the event I just attended, but still, first pitch!

brillig

It's a lovely cool, rainy day. I can't wait to have a balcony to sit on to enjoy them.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Kick ass, Liese!

About to climb up on the roof. Don't worry, I have someone holding the ladder for me...

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

Thanks!

I always vote sushi, Matt. Sushi is nearly always the right answer.

Agreed! But not quite as good for stimulating the brain's reward center as cheese.

I need to exercise. And I need to do taxes. And classwork. And a bunch of other stuff. But definitely, cheese sounds much better than all of these things.

Oh, and you guys, so my prof and I drove around for an hour looking for a hip place for lunch that day at the songwriters expo. Everything was all pancakes and pea soup (I guess it's a thing) and wineries. We finally found this great little spot in the industrial part of town. I had a roasted pheasant salad and he had something fancy with boquerones? and pancetta. And they were excited we were excited about them, so they gave us a free plate with beets and hummus. And also a brownie. They really liked us. (And as the prof's girlfriend later suggested, perhaps thought we were wealthier and more important musicians than we actually are!)

Anyway! We also had a little cheese plate, and it was so so good. But I, like an idiot, didn't ask what anything was, so I can't replicate the experience. But seriously, I could have just sat there and eaten cheese all day and been happy.

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

But seriously, I could have just sat there and eaten cheese all day and been happy.

I could do that any day. EVERY day!

One last whine, I swear: now all the physical effects of stress have come home to roost, including a sore back (though that's probably more from not exercising than anything [and yes, I know exercise is a good stress reliever]), migraine from hell, and an annoying painful [ladyparts TMI] cyst that develops on my ladyparts when I'm super-stressed. Oh, and probably a sinus infection. When I mentioned to Tim that my sinuses had been hurting for a month and had gotten REALLY bad after I got back from Colorado, he said, "I'm not trying to tell you what to do, but...you're going to call the doctor tomorrow, okay?" (Meh. Don't want antibiotics, damn it.)

I am DONE with 2016. If Godzilla goes rampaging down my street and eating the neighbors, I am going to ignore the shit out of it, because I am full up on stress for the year. Done.

All right. No more whining after this. My next post will hopefully be about what tasty stuff we find at TJs this afternoon.

(And soon, I hope, a link to a super-cute picture of Kato and his new dog friend Chewie. We participated in a fundraiser yesterday that involved getting pictures taken with your dog, and when we got there, one of our friends was already there with his dog Chewie, so we had pictures taken together. Chewie is about 3 and still full of puppy enthusiasm, and was all "Hey! Hey! Isn't this fun, new dog friend??? Woo! Let us jump around and sniff things together!!!!!" And Kato was all "Pup, I am almost 15 years old and you are exhausting me. Let me lie down and you tell me what you sniff."

Anyway, we should have those pictures soon. They should be cute as hell.)

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

Woot Liese, break a leg! But only a figural one

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

Thanks, Burrell!

You are allowed whining, Steph! Sheesh.

But go to the doctor.

Aww, old guy Kato.

Apparently, the Biscuit made an old guy friend in the kennel next to his while he was boarded. Apparently, the two of them would take turns going out into the play yard, but then when they were both inside would lie along the fence between them, nose to nose. Seabiscuit is a kennel favorite, and when the guy was telling me about them, he said, "If they'd had a chessboard, they would have been at it." He said they were like two old dudes sitting on a park bench together all day. All the other dogs would make a ruckus, and they would just lift their heads and look around, and then go back to napping together.

CHEESE.

My next post will hopefully be about what tasty stuff we find at TJs this afternoon.

I went to the farmer's market! For a change, I got there early enough to buy strawberries before they sold out. Delicious strawberries. I'm drinking tea right now to fortify myself for TJs.

Aw, the Biscuit!

Chimney cap installed and new tarp deployed.
