Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

Ugh meara, that's a bummer. And I hate it when I want to gnash my teeth but feel the need to be all mature and understanding of other people and their needs.

And Matt, I'm glad I'm not the only one who read it that way.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Congratulations, Kalshane! What a lovely how-we-got-married story. My brother and SiL did similar - I think they sent me an email afterwards with pictures, no hint beforehand.

Glad you are enjoying Paris, Connie! Please report whether they have breakfast chocolate available? I just like the sound of that, a croissant and chocolate for breakfast. I don't demand that you have it for me, but if you get a chance to check the menu.

Oh no, meara! Oh man. What an unfortunate confluence of what should be happy-making independent events.

Come to think of it, I have been known to sleepwalk. There's many ways I could have thwacked my hand while awake and just not really registered it, though.

My Tai Chi class didn't happen tonight. I don't know why - I got there a couple of minutes before it should have started (I thought) and no one was there, the office was dark and locked. I just checked the website and there's no notice about it. Troubling. So that was a long way to drive in the rain for no real reason. Nice visit wth my mom before I went to class, though.

Punishingly Intricate

Congrats, Kalshane!!!

I have had a number of violent sleep episodes but I've not actually bruised my sleeping partner (yet). I've definitely injured myself, though, and the wall and the ceiling fan!

Meara, that really sucks. I would be super pissed and feel like I couldn't really be mad, also. The worst!

We could move to Canada, I guess, should the election go some horrible way but I think I'm too bull-headed to do that. This is my god-damned country! Even if some jack-hole takes over the presidency for 4-8 years.

eta: I mean, my husband is a Canadian citizen so we could legally move there, I guess. He had a lot of offers of marriage in the early 2000s due to W but, thank goodness, didn't take any of the offerors up on it.

Yeah, I'm just wanting to cry. Because I wouldn't have planned this trip on my own. Two weeks of travel by myself is NOT my idea of fun. At all. And I know me, and know it will seriously limit what I'm willing and able to do, especially after dark. And a portion of the trip involves expeditions into the desert in jeeps with guides, which I'm really not excited about alone. Friend offered to pay to postpone the trip but I can't (work wise) and it would be winter there, by then, which would also suck. And even if she paid for someone else to go, I don't know many people who can take off two weeks of work--on two weeks' notice!!! And are someone I want to travel with. (She was like "I'll ask my network" and I'm like "travels with a complete stranger? Yeah, that's not a great alternative..")

Yeah, there isn't an obvious solution. Do you have any unemployed friends who have secretly always wanted to go to Chile?

meara - Feb 17, 2016 7:49:25 pm PST #15726 of 30003

Not that I'm aware of?

But also I'm not even sure what's fair to ask of her, you know? I mean, the accommodations are a sink cost at this point, but I don't even know how much a plane ticket would be all last minute. And is that fair?

oh joy! Oh Rapture ! I have a brain!

congrats, Kalshane

Ugh meara, that really is a mess

oh dear, that's not good. Tai Chi class should be rewarding, not disappointing.

"I keep to a strict diet of ill-advised enthusiasm and heartfelt regret." Leigh Bardugo

meara, that absolutely sucks. I wish there were a buffista traveling companion that could go.

Kalshane, best wishes to you both!

My cold kicked in and we have parent-teacher conferences tonight. I am not pleased.

Hopefully I can ask someone on Saturday, Burrell. Probably I just misunderstood something about the scheduling.

Yeah, meara, figuring out how to pay for your hypothetical replacement Chile traveling companion was going to be the next step in my salvage "plan".
