That's a good observation, Matt.

Well, a man can be nice and still have no business anywhere near the Constitution.
IO (but similar) news, a YouTube video I discovered, The Ballad of the Malheur Patriots (the religious statue in the middle is a famous Mormon statue that's featured prominently at the visitors center at the Salt Lake Temple)

I don't know, while I abhor Scalia's political positions it's worth noting that his closest friend on the Court was Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
Yes. This. I have people very near and dear to me who hold view similar to his. I'm sorry for those who loved him, but I will say I'm glad he's no longer on the Supreme Court.
I'm too sick to exercise but not too sick to grade
Oh, that is sad! i had a good practice today, so you can have some of my chi if you need it.
I still have not watched the Great British Baking, but I think the upcoming 3.14.16 pi day is going to require many pies, and possibly practice pies before. I have been googling "breakfast pie" in the hopes of coming up something both bizarrely comprehensive and tasty. WIP
I now qualify for older adult housing complexes of 55+. Yay?
Yay! I am kinda looking forward to when I do, some of those are pretty sweet. And happy birthday! Have a wonderful time in Vegas!
Yikes, sarameg! That's pretty cool that they notified you.
People have been saying the "bad winner=revolution" thing for ages
Like at least century by now, right? I figure if you are in a good enough situation to be able to contemplate how things getting worse might be good long-term, you're gonna be up against the wall.
Yay vw shower!
Yay books!
I do not know how to react to Scalia's death. It's a big stew of complex emotions. For one thing, I can remember some of his decisions and minority dissensions that were pretty righteous - not recently, but they happened.
Tep, I'm in love with this Cincinnati rental! [link]
Though, do I want to move there? I don't know. We are somewhat paralyzed about making the complicated move to the UK/Europe. I think Tom wants to leave New Orleans. I mentioned Cincinnati today because it's kind of near (but not too close) to Columbus, and it would be an easier move (somehow it seems easier than moving to the Pacific NW too). Also, I really love Cincinnati beer, so there's that.
I cannot deal with winters on the same level as New England, and Tom wants to get out of the south.
I don't know. Maybe we'll just stay here a while longer.
Sorry for Scalia's family, sorry he died before he even hit 80, not a bit sorry he's gone from the Supreme Court.
Pacific Northwest is TOTALLY easy to move to! Our winters are mild! Our beers are plentiful! COME TO US!
So, microbreweries are exploding here, for sure. And Northside is where Urban Artifact is, with the wild yeast beers. Obviously I think Northside is the shit, because it's growing a lot (I'm afraid it's hitting the gentrification point, actually), but it's still the most liberal, gayest neighborhood in Cincinnati. There's a very active neighborhood community council, and people really bust their asses to make the neighborhood a better place. The farmers market is very good. And my friend who is in the local beer scene lives near Northside.
Clifton is the next neighborhood over from Northside; it's where University of Cincinnati is, as well as a local community college. I love Clifton, too. I lived there for 7 years until I moved in with Tim. And there's been a lot of development there lately, too. No breweries AFAIK, but I am uncool and can't remember.
That bungalow is nice! It's close-ish to us but across the main road that runs through Northside.
Winter is tolerable. It's by no means like a New England winter.
In summary OH MY GOD MOVE HERE NOW DO IT DO IT DO IT
Cincinnati winters are not as bad as Boston winters. But they are certainly colder than New Orleans winters. (It is fucking freezing today.)
I can certainly see you guys in Northside, or OTR, or Covington. Not only do we have beer, we have brewing murals! (Edit - I live in Clifton.)
We were grocery shopping for Tim's dad when we saw the news about Scalia (on a TV in the Starbucks). My first reaction was t excited happy tone "Oh my god, Obama gets to appoint another justice!!!"
Tim: "Yeah, WAY too soon on that reaction."
Me: [glower]
We got back to his dad's and told him the news, and his Dad's exact reaction was t complete Eeyore tone "Oh my God, Obama gets to appoint another justice."
Tim did not tell his dad it was way too soon on that reaction, for which he received serious sideeye from me.
