On my seventh birthday, I wanted a toy fire truck, and I didn't get it, and you were real nice about it, and then the house next door burnt down, and then real firetrucks came, and for years I thought you set the fire for me. And if you did, you can tell me!

Yay books!

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

Not totally sure about cool neighborhoods -- I haven't explored enough yet to answer that. As for how cold it gets, we've had a few inches of snow this winter. Today it's freezing, but there haven't been many days that got this cold -- looks like the rest of this week has predictions from about 26 to 42 degrees, which seems like what it's been for most of the winter.

Our wings are not tired.

Wow, looks like Scalia has died.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Whoa.

I’m responsible for my own happiness? I can’t even be responsible for my own breakfast! (Bojack Horseman)

I'll probably rot in hell, for my first thought being that Cheney must have shot him in the face, since Scalia was at on a hunting retreat at the time of his death.

I'm a horrible person, because OMG Obama can nominate Scalia's successor. This will change EVERYTHING.

We said the same thing here, Nora! Those Texas hunting trips are dangerous.

The question is Consuela, how much hell will Obama have to go through to get his choice approved? Sigh.

Yeah, apparently Congress can just refuse to even consider an appointment. However if they do, Obama can make an interim appointment without Congressional consent, which is good for 2 years or until the next President comes in.

Only the Senate has to approve a SCOTUS appointment, so this fall's election just got more important. If the Democrats can tilt the balance in the Senate, we can get another progressive on the bench. But we'd need a filibuster-proof majority.

I'm wondering how much delay they can put on an appointment. They can't delay the inauguration for a full year, can they?

Which is what I'm thinking. Sympathy for those who loved him--there's nearly always someone--and perhaps they should avert their eyes from the celebrations.
