The local unofficial fireworks didn't last too long here. Loud but brief I can deal with, and even Walter has learned to accept pretty well. I don't think he likes them any better, but he is slower to bolt these days.
I set my alarm for 9, woke up at 7, went back to sleep tis 8ish. Not bad. Every New Year I think how strange it is that on the day I intend to put my best foot forward and get the year started right the first thing I do is mess up my sleep schedule.
Having leftovers + greens and peas for breakfast, which means eating black-eyed peas with chopsticks. If I'd thought about it, I probably wouldn't have tried it, but it's actually going okay.
I'd like to spend today in quiet contemplation/reflection and plan out my year, but there's so much still to do before I can really use my kitchen again. Ah well. Contemplation/reflection/planning in between vacuuming/disinfecting/washing/inventorying I guess.
I do wish I had some juice, my champagne would be better in the form of mimosas, I suspect. I think the closest I could get right now is sprinkling some True Lime in the glass.
It's Jan 1 and my lilies out back are trying to push through. This weather has confused everything. My snapdragons in buckets are even trying to come back to life.

Christmas morning I took leftover prosecco and blood orange fancy soda from the day before and made a not-bad mimosa. I was glad I didn't just pour them both out!
Oh, that sounds nice! I'm having a champagne cocktail with True Lime right w and its not bad. The crystals revitalize the bubbles.
I'also having eggnog in my coffee because I don't know how I'm going to get through this quart of eggnog (store-bought, because I've never actually had store-bought eggnog before and wanted to try it this season).
I wish they would sell pints of eggnog! I've only had it at the work brunch [this year], because the whole quart is Too Much.
You can use the leftover for French toast or bread pudding.
That's a great way to use it, brenda. I had never thought of that.
So, I'm contemplating a big craft project - a fandom quilt, but the patterns I'm seeing are daunting. Must think more on this.
That's a good idea, brenda. I don't have bread at the moment, but that can be fixed.
I think the store-bought eggnog is just too milky for me, but that's probably okay if I use it as an ingredient. Hm, maybe I'll make pancakes!
Ooh, fandom quilt sounds nifty, Kat!

Mmmmm!
I was going to make ham and roasted potatoes for dinner, but the ham says to heat at 325 and I want to cook the potatoes at 500! Blast.
Roast the potatoes first and then stick 'em back in for the last 10 minutes or so of the ham?
