Where I lived post-college New Year's Eve fireworks WERE gunshots—idiots in Apartment City would fire their guns up at the sky! If you had to venture out at night, you carried something solid over your head as a shield.
I don't know how that can fit into Civil War, but it's got to be canon. ETA NYS, not gunshots as fireworks. Ah, yes, staying inside for fear of falling bullets - better than fear of actively getting shot at, I suppose, but still, do not like. So far I've been able to assume that anything that wasn't fireworks was duck hunters, although there was something that sounded like a frigging cannon last night (with no other fireworks type noises around it, just the train, so I don't know about that one)
Sitting in my living room, I can see my breath a little. Better leave myself a little extra time to scrape ice off the car this morning.
What are you doing, New Year's Steve?
What are you doing, New Year's Steve?
I'm poppin' your cork, baybee.
Wow. That sounded way funnier in my head...read in Chris Evans' voice.

Hey, I laughed!
That really should be 2 sentences. What are you doing?
There you go.
Hee
Even better, doesn't the actual song go, "What are you doing New Year's? New Year's Steve."
